I woke up late, as usual, and my brothers were going to be so mad. I got dressed in a hurry and left my appartment. I walked down the street and stopped at the Starbucks where I usually go. If I was already late, it wouldn't matter if I was even more late to the music studio. And I could say I'd stop to get coffee for everyone. I entered and saw a line of people waiting to pass their order. I didn't really have the choice to leave-I really needed a coffee, each morning. I sighed and looked around. I just hoped the wait wouldn't be too long...
After a few minutes, I was the next to order. The girl in front of me asked for a latte and then she turned around and we bumped into each other. She didn't drop her coffee -it would've been too cheesy- but when I took the time to properly look at her. I was in shock. I knew her. It had been over years that I hadn't seen her.
...
"Are you ready?" I heard Connor yell from downstairs. "Gimme 2 minutes, Con," I said I was brushing my teeth. I heard him pacing. I finish to brush my teeth and went to my room and hurried up to put on my shoes. I went downstairs and we left to head to my friend's party.
When we arrived, Chris's house was already packed full of people. We made our way in, "don't do anything stupid, uh?" I nodded and I saw my brother heading to the living room. I searched for my friends around the house and found Thomas and Ryan in the kitchen where the drink where - of course. "Riley!" They greeted me. "Hey guys!" We then went outside next to the pool to chill.
"I'll be right back." I told my friends and got up. I went inside to get something to drink. "Do you know which one is better?Whisky or vodka" She looked at my with both bottle in her hands. I knew her, she was someone from school "I suggest vodka," I paused, "mix it with juice though." She smiled at me and made her drink. "I'm Tiffany by the way." I introduced myself, "Riley." I took a few drinks for my friend -I couldn't drink alcohol, I was driving back home tonight. "Do you wanna come sit outside?" She nodded, "sure."
We headed outside, I hold the door for her. I couldn't stop to look at her, she looked so pretty in her black dress. Though, it must've been hard for her to walk because of the heels she was wearing. We sat and I introduced her. A few minutes later, Connor joined the conversation about music. Our conversation were always about music.
Eventually, people started leaving and I was feeling tired. I told Connor I wanted to leave and he agreed. We said by to our friends and I hugged Tiffany. Then, we headed to the car. As I was putting my seat belt on, someone knocked on my window. It was Tiffany. I rolled the window down. "Do you think I can have a ride back home?" "Sure, hop on." She smiled, it hit me and I froze. I heard the door close and her putting her seat belt on. "Dude," Connor hit my shoulder playfully. I came back to reality and hit the gas pedal.
She instructed me the way to her house and a few minutes later the car was parked in front of her house. Although it was passed midnight, there was still lights on and we could hear people screaming. "Thanks for the ride." I looked in the mirror and I saw her force a smile. She opened the door, got off and stood there. Something inside of me told me to stay and asked her if she wanted to come to our house. "I..." she paused. "yes." She got back in the car, "can you just like drive?"
I drove for a good hour and after, stopped near a park. We all got off and went to sat on the swing set. "Do you parents fight a lot?" I wasn't sure if it was okay to ask her that but I thought just after my mouth had said the words. "Frequently, these days. I hate it." I looked at her, her eyes were sad. "I'm sorry." Even though, she smiled, "It's not your fault. You don't have to be sorry."
...
"Riley?" Tiffany said with a big sigh. "...Tiff?" I shook my head, come on riley say something. "What are you doing here?" She smiled, she had the same beautiful smile that could brighten anyone's day and often made my day better back in the days. "I'm getting coffee," she laughed and it was my turn to smile. "You're so silly, Riley." The cashier interrupted our conversation, "What can I make you?" I ordered four lattes. "You what have you been up to?" We made out way outside the line. "I...I'm still making music." She nodded, "that's so cool. I'm glad you can make a living off of that." She still as kind and as nice as I remembered her. "And you?" She smiled, kind of embarrased, "You remember that time we went in LA and I met this lady?" My heart shattered inside me, of course I remembered that trip. "Turns out she was the CEO of Macy's and I'm working for her as a stylist." The man behind the counter handed us our coffees.
"I really gotta run but i'll see you around? Do you still live here?" We were now outside the Starbucks. "No, I live in New York. I'm only visiting my parents." She said that as if it was an appology. "Well it was nice seeing you again." I nodded, "Yes, have a great day. Tell your parents I say hi." I bet my smile was from one ear to my other. I watched her leave, her hair bouncing off her shoulder.
After she was totally out of sight, I began to walk to the studio. My mind was filled with memories of our time together. Now that I think about it, she wasn't very special. Although, she was special because she was my first love and no one can ever forget their first love. I remembered how enthousiastic about everything we would do, she smiled every single day and liked it. Little did she know, I loved seeing her smile and always wanting to help other. I loved how spending time with her felt so right and so good. There was something very reassuring about being with her, the feeling of home and peace and light.
...
"I think I'm in love." She screamed as her arms were up in the air. I looked at her for a second before getting my eyes back on the road. I also didn't know what to say. "I mean, this is like a dream come true, LA, convertible, you." She smiled. "I think I love you." I drove the car off the high way and stopped at the nearest place. My heart was racing and my palms were sweaty. It was the first time I heard those words and it was the first time I've felt it. "I love you, Riley." It was as if I could hear her heart racing too. "I love you too." I leaned in and kiss her. Oh God, I loved beeing 18.
