Chapter 46
Still Alive
It took mere moments for the soldier to explain to his commander the situation down the sewers. The commander wasn't a stupid nor inexperienced man nor was he a man used to delay or hesitate. The rough soldier life had forced him to live all his conscious life fighting vampires and trying to survive himself. He quickly understood that it wasn't the time to wonder about what the Kim boy was doing down the sewers nor why he claimed that every vampire in town is following him. His trained out flair for danger and battle spoke to him better than explanations.
"Announcing full battle alert! Every unit must concentrate around that sewer exit! Let the Kim boy inside immediately and prepare for a fight!" The commander ordered quickly.
"But, Sir, shouldn't we ask the Mayor for permission?" A standby official asked. Somehow he was certain the Mayor wouldn't approve such decision.
"No need for permission when a citizen we are responsible for is at risk. After all we are all sworn to protect the inhabitants of the rich district!" The commander cut him out and ran towards the sewer stairs in a hurry. The soldier ran after him.
"I am sick of letting people die and do nothing." He commented briefly just to the man standing next to him. "That Mayor and his cowardly orders can go to hell..."
He darted down the stairs and at the same time yelled with a loud, deep voice.
"Remove the barricades and let them in!" The command echoed into the concrete narrowness of the sewer tunnels.
The soldiers down didn't hesitate and buzzed around to follow the instructions.
Several strong blows on the metal bars and there was enough space for Suga and Taehyung to squeeze in.
"The vampires are after us. We have something that attracts them!" Yoongi explained in a panting voice while looking back to make sure there weren't any already catching up. The threatening roar of approaching monsters advanced towards them.
"Load explosives at the barricades. After that everybody out! We will wait the vampires there!" The command was executed immediately. Taehyung couldn't even register the speed at which he managed to run outside the sewers. Suga was following him closely. In a moment they popped outside and hungrily inhaled the fresh cold air.
"Woooaaa..." Tae couldn't hold back his surprise. The exit of the sewers was surrounded by military force, tanks, men with fire throwers and all other kind of heavy equipment. "You are well stacked over here..." he couldn't help commenting.
"What attracts the vampires?" The commander yelled anxiously, neglecting Tae's remark.
"Inside the jacket pocket..." Suga managed to blur out.
"Throw the jacket over there and then pull back!" came the immediate order.
Suga didn't wait to be asked twice. He discarded his coat with enormous speed and a great deal of relief and retreated several meters back, behind the large body of a bulletproof vehicle. Tae rammed him with his elbow.
"Are you sure this is far enough?"
Suga just snored back in response.
The two turned towards the sewer entrance and waited.
The muffled sound of approaching vampires was getting louder every minute. The faces of the soldiers around were pale and determined. Their dark and focused expressions clearly showed that they had the full understanding what was coming their way.
