Chapter 49

Messenger of Death

"Let's drink for the health of our newly elected mayor!" Namjun was holding his glass up and smiling happily at Jin's glowing face. "You, my friend make us all proud!"

The five of them, Namjun, Ho-seok, Jin, Tae and Jungkook were gathered around one of the simple wooden tables in "Joonies's corner" for a small celebration. Finally after weeks of delay fair elections were held in their town and Jin was officially chosen as the mayor of their city. It was a memorable occasion not only because for the first time somebody was selected with almost full majority but also because for the first time the selected mayor was not a member of the rich families but a mere commoner.

Much was expected from the new governor, many eyes were watching, some with hope and faith, some with bile and disapproval. Many expected him to make the place they lived in a better place and their lives better and more secure but many wished him to fail and thus prove that he didn't belong at that position.

Jin clearly understood the burden he took upon his shoulders and the thousands eyes watching him. Now the fate of every citizen in this town was entrusted to his hands and he firmly intended to justify that trust. Not an easy thing to deal with, not something to be taken lightly.

But today was his day off and he was going to celebrate with his friends. He needed to see them, these men he learned to trust and care for. They all risked their lives together, they all survived together, helped each other, fought together. Friends. The people one wants to spend his time with despite of all their differences and oddities. Each one that different than the other yet when together they felt like a complete whole. That's what mattered the most.

Only two chairs remained empty at their table. Jimin and Suga were getting late.

"Now where are these two?" Taehyung asked when he traced Jin's wondering gaze over the empty chairs. "I clearly remember telling Yoongi six o'clock."

"Their loss..." Ho-seok dried out half of his beer and wiped his mouth with the back of his hand. "The later they come the less they drink... Hey, Tae, do you want some beer?"

"No, thanks. Alcohol has terrible effect on me."

"As you wish." Namjun smiled and poured him a glass of water. "Good thing that my other clients think that alcohol has great effect on them! I'd have to close the place otherwise."

Jin grunted with agreement.

"Now, tell me, Jin..." Namjun turned towards his friend. "What are your plans for the development of our thriving city?"

"Come on... lets not start today... we will discuss it all tomorrow at work."

"But that's what the people want to know, right?"

Jin smiled and took a sip from his drink.

"Work? What work, Namjun?" Jungkook asked.

"Well... Me and Jin, we are going to be working together..." Namjun winked. Ho-seok was smiling knowingly over the tip of his glass hardly holding back his laughter.

"Working together? Like how?" Jungkook's eyes widened with curiosity.

"Like I will be the new chief of police."

"Whaat!" Tae started coughing and almost drowned on his water.

Jungkook just blinked in disbelief.
