It's been a month since I found my real parents and mate(s). After I found out the truth I went into hiding. I'd stayed with my parents for a couple of weeks while Wade went to investigate some nearby raiders. Shortly after Wade left was when shit hit the fan.
I can safely say that no one knows who I am now. The raiders were paid by the italian alpha to kill me and anyone close to me. Why he was such an ass was beyond me. The first thing to happen was me collapsing in pain; my parents had been talking with me in the living room when I'd felt Wade die.
Taking advantage of my weakness, the raiders then set fire to my parents house. Both my parents died in the fire, but before the house collapsed they pushed me out. Why did I have to live? I wanted to die with Wade. However, fate had other plans. Digging my hands into the soil below me caused me to unearth plant life and fallen leaves. My hair fell into my eyes as my thoughts ran wild.
If only I'd gone with that stupid alpha then none of this would have happened.... My animal was silent. After Wade died she succumbed to the depths of my mind, only showing up when it suited her. I wished I had the luxury to just fade away. The cruel reality is that I was alive; the raiders were suppose to kill me, but I was still here.
Sighing I looked up from the soil, my bow was in hand. Taking a deep breath I drew my bow back, lining up the shot I studied the animal. It's brown hide blended in well and it's head was tilted down in a attempt to eat. It's ears flicked around trying to listen and interpret sounds of predators.
A bird whistle sounded through the silent woods, another group was after this game. The animals head flew up it's antlers on full display, ears pushed forwards while it's eyes darted around. Taking the shot I allowed for my muscles to relax from holding the bow string back. My arrow whisked through the air and slammed into the bucks skull, a thud followed shortly after.
Waiting a few minutes I started to make my way towards the buck's body. I was a few steps away from the clearing the buck laid in when a girl showed up. She was crouched down in a attempt to hide herself from sight. Looking at the girl she reminded me of someone or more importantly something.
Peering around the girl made her way towards the bucks body, assessing the body she stopped to look around once more. After confirming that it was 'clear' she bit into the bucks hide. The action reminded me of a seahorse and instantly Wade surfaced into my thoughts.
Shaking my head I allowed myself to approach the girl. She looked to be in her twenties however she could be in her late teens by how small her frame was. Clearing my throat I gained her attention.
Startled was an understatement the girl was downright terrified. "P-please don't hurt me." She pleaded softly.
Confused I replied "Why would I hurt you?" My voice was hoarse from lack of use. I hadn't needed to talk to anyone until now.
"People started hunting my kind and after awhile we were forced to change forms." She said quietly. Her eyes reminded me of the ocean. But the shade wasn't a clear ocean but rather one before a storm. The color was a grayish blue green, it was strikingly bold compared to what Wade's had been. Why was I comparing her to Wade?
Shaking the thought away I answered the girl "I know what you are. I could care less about that, however I want to know why you are without your owner."
Her face darkened at the mention of her owner, the subject probably still hurt much like how I was with Wade. "He died." Was her short answer.
Since her owner died she could choose her new owner, but I had a feeling that her next owner would be carefully selected. Normally when a seahorses owner dies they automatically get another but since people were hunting them down they adapted to the new situation. Now when their owner dies the horse gets to choose who its next owner is to insure that they are treated right.
From how she looked she went a long time without a proper owner. Sighing I'd said "If you stick around I'll take care of you."
Without her reply I turned around and headed towards my cabin. It was her choice to make, maybe that was what it was like for Wade.
