Surprisingly the girl followed me to my cabin. Once inside I made her some food and got her a glass of water. Of course she was hesitant to take the offered plate, but after her stomach wailed in reply she finally took it.

As she was eating I fixed my own plate of food. Leaning on the counter I started to eat my food, the room was silent. The girl, I could tell, was uneasy about the silence.

Looking at her, she was beautiful, just not properly taken care of. This fact made me wonder what her horse side looked like.

The girls skin was a rich brown, lighter than most who spent alot of time outside but still beautiful all the same. Her hair was a short curly dark brown that framed her small face.

Her most striking feature though, was her eyes. Now that we were in proper lighting I could tell that her eyes swirled with blue and green hues. The combination making for a bold, strong, vibrant color. Even now with the proper lighting I couldn't come up with the right word for the color.

From the way the girl acted I could tell her last owner abused her. Sighing I decided to strike up conversation.

"My names Mia. What's your name?" My voice was soft and light the change in tone probably to keep from scaring the girl.

"My names Zyrah." Her body language suggested that she wasn't lying.

I nodded telling her that I'd heard her. We say in silence for more time before Zyrah said something.

"Why don't you care about my background?"

Replying I said "Because I had a sea horse before."

Surprised she said "Really?"

Nodding I said "He was kind, and I loved him a lot."

I looked away from her face as I told her about Wade. It still hurt to talk about him but if she wanted to know then I'd tell her. Trust was important in times like these.

"He died." The girl said quietly, so quietly I almost didn't hear her.

"Yea-yeah" I said having to clear my throat to push back my emotions.

And then something I never thought Zyrah would do happened. She got up and hugged me, a tight bear hug. I hugged her back as she sobbed on my shoulder.

She two knew the pain of losing someone, whether on purpose or on accident. "I didn't want to hurt him." I heard her sob.

"I know. But your owner was abusive and if he tried to endanger you it wasn't your fault." She stiffened at my reply.

"How did you know?" She asked between sniffs.

"Because of how you act around others, and how timid you are with yourself." Something like abuse was a hard pill for anyone to sallow.

After talking to get for a while, she'd told me she would stay with me. And I was okay with that, being alone sometimes wasn't what was best for a grieving soul.
