Chapter 26

The Next Day - Umi's POV - Age 27 - Jonin

I lay on the couch, just staring blankly ahead, when Kakashi walks in the apartment.

"Umi?" Kakashi asks and walks in the living room to see me on the couch. "Let, me guess, you didn't sleep as punishment for failing the mission?" Kakashi asks as he bends down in front of me.

"Sort of, more like you being upset has been on my conscious the past couple days and won't allow me to sleep." I say and Kakashi frowns at that.

"Why?" Kakashi asks me.

"Because I failed a mission that mattered a lot, I couldn't capture Sasori's henchman or supposed henchman, I couldn't bring Sasuke back and he was right in my grasp and I couldn't bring him back." I say and Kakashi puts his hand on my head.

"I promised I wouldn't hurt you emotionally again, I also promised I wouldn't drink my sorrows away ever again. I know you tried to bring him back, that effort alone was enough." Kakashi says to me and his hand moves my head to my cheek and I lean into his hand as I look at him.

"I'm sorry Kakashi, I wanted to bring him back, but I couldn't, I just wanted you to have your team back again, so some of your pain will ease." I say and Kakashi's eyes soften at that.

"I'll be fine." Kakashi says to me.

"You may say that, but you aren't ok, I know you Kakashi, I know you, probably better than you know yourself most of the time. I just want you to feel ok again." I say and Kakashi puts his forehead on my forehead.

"I'm ok when I'm around you, don't you know that?" Kakashi asks me in a soft tone.

"But how ok? There's only so much I can do to help." I say to him.

"You do more than enough for me. You keep me going than anything." Kakashi says softly. "Come on, I have to train Naruto and I want to keep an eye on you." Kakashi says as he gets up and I follow him to field and we see Naruto there, smirking, then he see's me.

"Umi-Sensei? You look bad." Naruto says to me and me and Kakashi laugh nervously.

"I stayed up the past few nights with out any sleep." I say and Tenzo gets here and Naruto starts training while Tenzo has his wood style on the ready and I can barely keep my eyes open at this point.

"You can sleep." Kakashi says as he sits next to me and puts an arm around my waist and pulls me closer to him.

"But, I don't know how long I'll be out." I say quietly.

"It'll be fine, I'll be right here if something comes up." Kakashi says to me and I lay my head on his shoulder and I close my eyes, falling asleep, until Naruto yells in victory and my eyes snap open to look at him. "Go ahead and sleep, he only got a minor tear in his leaf." Kakashi says to me and I nod slightly and I close my eyes again and I fall asleep.

The Next Day

"Umi, wake up."

I open my eyes to see Kakashi next to me.

"You, Naruto, Sakura, Sai and Yamato have a mission." Kakashi says to me with a closed eyed smile.

"I don't want to go." I mumble and bury my head in his shoulder, still half asleep.

"You have to." Kakashi says to me and I grumble.

"Damn." I mutter and Kakashi chuckles and smooths down my hair a bit and rests his chin on my head. "Fine." I say and get up.

"You want to change?" Kakashi asks me and I look at my outfit to see its a black tank and black leggings.

"No, I'll just grab my katana." I say and Kakashi nods and gets up and tosses me my katana. "Thanks." I say and hug him and I just stay there, not wanting to move.
