"Has the jury reached a verdict?" Judge Barth asked.
"We have, your honor," the foreman announced as all of the jurors stood.
"And what say you?" she asked as an envelope was handed to the foreman.
"On the matter of The People Versus Oscar Ramirez, on the charges of assault in the second degree, we find the defendant.... guilty," the foreman, George Arnold, announced.
Oscar Ramirez's wife began to sob quietly.
Juliana sighed with relief, hand in hand with Rafael Barba.
"On the charges of kidnapping in the first degree, we find the defendant.... guilty," he boomed.
"On the charges of attempted murder in the second degree, we find the defendant.... not guilty," he announced regrettably.
Juliana winced in pain.
"On the charges of rape in the first degree.... we find the defendant.... guilty," he announced.
"Ladies and gentleman, members of the jury, the state of New York thanks you for your service, we are now adjourned. Mr. Ramirez will be remanded to Rikers pending sentencing," Judge Barth announced, banging her gavel.

Everyone filed out of the courthouse, mostly satisfied. Juliana got many hugs and well-wishes and congratulations from her unit. Rafael held Juliana close as they walked out together.
"You did it," Rafael whispered to her. "It was a nice, clean, just trial. No plea deal, no nothing."
She nodded. "We did."
He smiled tearfully, just happy that she was alive. "I love you," he kissed her forehead.
"I love you," she repeated softly. "Now lets just go home, Rafi."
