In my personal opinion, high school is so mainstream. The house parties that you get drunk of shitty, Smirnoff vodka, the cliches, and the exams. It's all so repetitive to be honest and at this point in my high school career, I'm so done with it.
I pulled into the soon-to-be-crowded parking lot, one of the many things that never change in my morning routine. I've found arriving to school earlier than later is way better than sitting through traffic five minutes before the first bell rings. My best friend, Luke on the other hand thinks otherwise.
"This is so unnecessary, Charlie," Luke says to me every single morning when I pick him up at 7:20 sharp. "School doesn't start for another forty minutes."
I usually don't respond, I know school doesn't start until eight and it only takes ten minutes to get there from Luke's house but I enjoy getting there incredibly early! Good parking spots.
"Oh look at that, nobody fucking here once again!" My best friend groans as I pulled into a spot near the front.
"Yenno' Luke," turning off the engine I sigh, "you could just oh I don't know, stop coming with me to school? You literally have a car!"
"I mean yeah I could, but-"
"Oh of course there's a 'but'," I cut him off. "Let me guess, you don't want to waste your gas because mommy Liz only gives you $20 a week for walking Molly and you need that for condoms and gas to get to and from whoever your hooking up with's house?"
Luke's smiled, "spot on, Charlie. You know what? Maybe you are my best friend."
"Hell yeah I am! Who else would it be? And do not say Michael, you know he'd never pick your sorry ass up and deal with you every morning," I unbuckled my seatbelt to get more comfortable.
The blond shrugged, "I mean, I was gonna say Calum. But Michael works too! I think he would pick me up every morning if I asked."
I rolled my green eyes at him, Luke and I met in year three. We were playing state tag and he "accidentally" pushed me down while I was running to Nebraska. Ever since my tumble on the 50 nifty United States we've been inseparable. Why did we have a painted out map of the U.S at an Australian elementary school in the suburbs of Sydney? I have absolutely no idea. On top of Luke's aggressiveness in tag, he's also annoying, idiotic, gross, rude, lazy and a total man-whore, but I still love him. To an extent. There are times when I never want to speak to him for the rest of my life, for example; the past thirty something times he's drunkenly called me at 3:30 in the morning asking me to pick him up from whoever he decided to fuck that night's house. Then having to deal with him for the rest of the night just to drive hime back in the early morning to retrieve his own car. But other than that, Luke's pretty great.
"What's up bitches?" Hannah Benson slid into my backseat, settling in the middle. Hannah was my best friend next to Luke. She was another girl after all and there are just somethings I can't talk to Luke about, plus, Hannah doesn't call me at ungodly hours of the night to pick her up across town, unlike Luke. Hannah's mom drops her at school every morning before her work, which leads to Hannah hiding in my car for warmth and shelter in the early hours.
"Hey, Han," I smiled, resting my head in my hand.
"Hey Charlie! What's going on, Hemmo?" She smirked at her pet name for the boy sitting next to me.
'Hemmo' threw his head back in exasperation, "stop fucking calling me that shit! It was so long ago!"
Luke was referring to his very old Youtube channel where he posted videos of him singing and playing guitar. He wasn't bad in any sense but he hates when people bring it up considering how young he was and the fact that his name was 'Hemmo1996'.
