"Dad dad dad," Destiny whines, pulling the sleeve of my jumper.
We're sitting on grass in front of a pool at the water park, taking a break from all of the fun and waiting for Ariana as she has disappeared to go to the bathroom.
I let out a quiet sigh before turning to her. She's been doing this for the past hour, and I already know what's coming. "...yes?"
Destiny stands there, completely silent. Her wide eyes scan my face for any sort of reaction, good or bad.
I guess I'll have to give her one, or else she will not stop bothering me.
How charming.
A smile slowly appears on my face as I rapidly pick her up and swing her over my shoulder. She screams out in surprise and bursts into fits of giggles as I hold her onto my shoulder, walking towards the pool.
Before Destiny can have any kind of reaction, I throw her into the water and her screams are drowned out as she sinks under.
She appears a few seconds later and has a big, toothy grin on her face as she stares at me, laughing.
Laughing at me.
I roll my eyes at my crazy daughter and try to ignore that I'm a dripping, soaked mess.
"What happened to you?" A familiar voice questions in amusement.
I turn to look at the person who's voice it belongs to, and immediately smile back when Ariana is a few steps away from me. She slides her hand into mine and squeezes it.
"I might have thrown Destiny in the pool but gotten soaked by her splash," I say matter-o-factly.
Ariana is silent for a few seconds as she stares at me and turns her head to look at our daughter in the pool, laughing. Of course when you see Destiny laugh, you can't keep a straight face.
Ever.
So I'm not surprised when Ariana bursts out laughing too, her hand untangling from mine, and I can't help but smile along as two people I love most have a happy expression.
Wait.
Two people I love most?!
I love Ariana?!
No, Justin, no. You don't. You loved her, but you don't anymore.
Right.
My smile fades as I sigh at my thoughts, forgetting that both Ariana and Destiny are watching me. I close my eyes in frustration. Why does Ariana make me feel this way?
"Daddy are you okay?" Des worriedly asks, her smile also fading. She gets out of the pool and runs over to me, wrapping my hand in hers.
I open my eyes and softly smile at my daughter. I crouch down and give her a peck on her cheek. I hug her close to me as I sigh. "Yes, Des. I'm fine. Thank you."
As we tear the hug apart I can't help but smile. That's all that I seem to do around my daughter.
Is smile.
Ariana and Des both still look at me in worry and Ari raises an eyebrow as my eyes glance at her. Alright, time to stop ruining good moments.
"Water park?" I ask hopefully, looking at Des.
"Water Park!" Destiny giggles as she starts skipping to the next ride, Ariana and I following her close behind.
"You alright?" She whispers to me.
I'm unable to speak due to the sudden ball in my throat, so I just nod my head. Ariana grabs my hand in mine again before looking forward.
"Water Park?" Ariana asks, quoting me, trying to remove the tension that is obvious in the air.
I flash her a smile as she grins at me. "Water Park," I reply.** 2 H O U R S L A T E R **
"Ariana can you watch the stuff? I'm going to take Destiny to that ride over there," I state, pointing to a water slide not too far away.
Ariana nods her head unable to speak as her mouth is full. As she swallows the food she was eating, she smiles at me. "Of course! Go. Enjoy."
I nod and smile at her before jogging over to my daughter. "Shall we go?"
Destiny quickly nods and I grab her hand in mine as we make our way to the ride. We walk up the stairs to the top of the slide, and when it's our turn we grab a double donut. I place myself at the back of it while Destiny sits in between my legs, at the front.
"Hold on tight please," I tell Destiny. She nods at me before wrapping her small fingers around the black handles and I grab on too. I give a swift nod at the worker and he pushes us down the slide, into the darkness. The silence quickly gets replaced by both mine and Destiny's screams as we slide through the dark parts, then the light parts as the non-existent roof of the slide doesn't shield us from the sun, and we swerve a sharp left as the tunnel abruptly turns, until we reach the end. We come out laughing and I grab the donut before grabbing my daughter's hand, and walk away from the ride towards Ariana, still laughing at the amount of fun we just had.
But I immediately stop laughing as my eyes glimpse at Ariana, and the person standing above her, talking to her. My eyes narrow, trying to get a glance at who this person is.
Destiny notices my laughter disappearing before glancing at me to see what happened. Her mouth opens, as if to say something, but she closes it shut as she follows my gaze.
"Come on," I mumble. I hold her hand tighter and march my way towards Ariana sitting on the picnic blanket.
"Who are you?" I ask sensibly, trying to contain my anger and curiosity.
Wait, anger? Why am I angry? I shouldn't be angry.
Oh.
I'm jealous.
I'm jealous.
I avoid both the man's and Ariana's gazes as I realise my anger is jealousy, jealousy that another male is talking to someone who should be my girlfriend, but that quickly disappears as I see the look on Ariana's face.
Fright.
Her wide eyes keep glancing at the man in front of her, watering up at each look. Her eyebrows are furrowed together and when she turns to look at me, that's when I really have a glance at how scared she is.
I repeat my question, since the man completely ignored me, in a more aggressive tone and squeeze my daughter's hand in reassurance as I hear her fidgeting beside me.
The man turns around, a deathly glare attached to his face, and that's when I realise who this man is and why Ariana is so afraid.
The man standing in front of me, the man that Ariana fears, is the same man that abducted Ariana.
The man that made her miss the first six years of her daughter's life.
The man that ripped Ariana from my life and is the cause of my heart shattering in two.
The man whose name is Ricky.
