Hayes' POV
As soon as we walk in my dad yells. Smooth. Thanks dad.
"HAYES!!!!!"
"YES DAD!!" I shout then roll my eyes. "Sorry." I tell Sam, embarrassed.
She follows me into the kitchen where my dad was.
"Hayes you know that you have to ta-
Samantha!!! Hey sweetie!!" My dad says.
I look at my him. "Dad!" I grumble "It's SAM" I say, frustrated. "How many times have I told you that.. god.."
I roll my eyes.
Sam looks down.
"Sorry..uh Sam." My dad mumbles.
"Haha. It's ok Mr. Grier. Sam just works better... But if you insist on 'Samantha'...." She says using air quotes around her name.
"Dad.. uh.. We'll be upstairs." I say changing the subject. He eyes me for a second then says,
"Uh. Sam you can head up there I just gotta talk to Hayes for a sec."
"Oh. Okay. Um.." She starts. Just then Nash walks into the kitchen.
"SAMMY!!! Hey Chika!!!" He says giving her a big hug. I roll my eyes in jealousy as she laughs.
"Nashley would you be a dear and take Sam upstairs?" My dad says jokingly. I swear I think Nash is the favorite. Nash bows as if wanting to dance with her and holds his hand out.
"It would be my greatest pleasure" he says in a fake British accent. Sam giggles and lets Nash take her hand and lead her upstairs. As if she hasn't been here a thousand times already, god.
"Alright.." My dad says. He sounded upset.
"What?!" I say defensively.
"Look Hayes. Did you take this today?" He says holding the container of medication up.
I look down. I still can't believe this happened. About 2 weeks ago, I had a physical check up with my doctor which I've had a hundred times before. The appointments are usually no big deal but this time, we found something wrong. I guess I was diagnosed with a disorder. Something like cerebellar tremor. It hasn't progressed very far and the doctor said it's good they found out early. This disorder makes me like I don't know, Shake? I guess. It's a slow tremor or shaking or whatever that happens either after a simple movement like picking up something that dropped or reaching to close a door or it's when my heart rate goes up really suddenly.
I'm still not one hundred percent on board with what it is. So the medication is supposed to prevent the "shaking" I guess. They help, especially during football, but I don't like taking them...
My doctor said the condition can progress and become more serious, and was worried about seizures and breathing problems. All of which obviously completely freaked out my dad."Hayes. You gotta take these bud." My dad says, disappointed.
"Alright alright" I say taking the pills with a glass of water and swallowing them.
"I'm gonna go upstairs.." I say walking off impatiently.
"Nuh uh." He says blocking my way. "Are you gonna say something to Samantha about this?"
"DAD. It's SAM!"
"Okay okay. Sam, Samantha, same thing. But don't change the subject. Are you going to tell her about this?" He says holding up the orange bottle of pills.
"NO." I say, frustrated.
"Look bud. I think you should. It'd save you a lot of trouble if you just tell her."
"Dad. First, I don't NEED to. It's not her problem. And second, I DON'T want to."
"Alright it's your choice bud. But just know that if you hide it from her she'll find out somehow. You don't want her to worry if something happens and it's better if she just hears it from you.."
"Dad. Please don't tell her.." I beg.
"But it's not like I have to tell her anyway.. I don't wanna make it seem like there's something wrong with me!""Fine, fine okay. But just be smart Hayes. It's obvious you you've got a thing for her." He winks.
"DAD. NO. I DO NOT. WE'RE FRIENDS. OH MY GOD." I say and walk off. As I do, he shouts "SURE!" And laughs.
