2002 Rainbow Kisses

Chapter 4

Present time
After much deliberation I decide to switch my phone on. I can not hide from the world forever. I'm pretty sure my dad would have tried to call me. Oh speak of the devil.
Is it weird that I wished it was Jace calling. Ever since I switched on my phone which was 20 minutes ago I have not received any text message or email from him.
I like communicating through email, that's how Sam and I communicated most of the time.
I started using email to communicate after I read the Fifty shades trilogy.
It just inspired me to try something new. I always used email for important things like submitting school assignments and applying for part time jobs but never for just daily communication.
Ana and Christian inspired me.

I answer the phone and before I can even utter a single word:
Dad: Fluflly where are you? are you still at the pool? I'm coming to get you, I told you we were suppose to meet up with Nikki for lunch today. No excuses this time. Can you just meet her it has been 3 months since I have been asking you to come meet her for crying out loud and you still refuse to meet her.
Nikki is my father's female friend. I'm glad my dad has started opening up again. Ever since my mother left 14 years ago, my dad had shut himself out from socializing and meeting new people. its just that I just don't see why I have to get to know her its not like they are getting married or anything.
I just do not want my dad to get hurt again, I was 4 when my mom just up and left without a single goodbye to her children, I woke up one morning and she was gone. To this day I still don't understand why she abandoned her family.

Rainbow: Sorry dad I lost track of time, can you go without me please? I'm not actually hungry. I'm sure Nikki won't mind.

I am just not ready to meet her, maybe one day, I just don't want to open up to someone and start viewing them as a motherly figure and then all of a sudden, puff, they are gone just like that. Even my dad's previous female friends, I refused to meet them and thank God I didn't because it ended up not working out between them so why would this be any different.

Dad: Rainbow, you are not hungry? Since when do you turn down an opportunity to go eat out at a fancy restaurant? okay what's wrong Pumpkin, you know you can always talk to me right.

I don't want to get into this right now, so I guess I will have to go for lunch with them.

Rainbow: I just don't feel like meeting anyone today dad.

Dad: come on please, I asked you last week and you agreed, Nikki is really looking forward to meeting you, your brother already met her 3 months ago. just this once please.

Rainbow: Okay fine dad, I will come, but don't come pick me up, I will rush straight home and change so I will meet you guys there. Wait where are we having lunch?

Dad: At the place we ate last week, at The Eat. Well I'm going to the office first to pick up a file so I will meet up with you there in an hour okay.

Rainbow: okay Dad, see you then. Love you

Dad: love you too Vee

Here goes nothing I guess we are finally going to meet the famous Nikki, who has captured my dad's attention for now.I quickly pack my stuff and head home where I take a quick shower to remove all the pool chemicals and put on my favourite denim shorts, a black cropped offthe shoulder and my black vans. I don't know if I should wear a hat or what because I don't feel like straightening my hair because that will take a long time. I just decide to blowdry it and put it in a messy bun. I don't have a choice really. I really should have it braided really soon.

20minutes later I am outside the restaurant and I get a text from my dad informing me that they are held up by the traffic but they are on their way and that I should get a table a wait for them.
