Emmi's P.O.V

Ever since we went to the specialist, school has gotten a bit easier. I still had problems from time to time. One thing that never changed for me was mixing up letters and numbers. I could read books easier now and I discovered I still hate reading! I have a better time making friends, getting along with Lilly and other kids in school.

I put on my white shirt with an orange fox on it, on the fox it said, 'bright eyed and bushy tailed'. I put on my orange, white and dark green tights with a whole bunch of different patterns on them. I put my lace toms on. I pulled my hair up in a ponytail.

I skipped downstairs for breakfast. There was a plate of hash browns, orange juice and toast laying out at my spot. Next to the food was my two pills.

"Daddy, can I not take these today?" I asked. He thought for a minute.

"The doctor said you needed a daily dosing." He told me.

"But I'm not doing school today, it's the weekend." I explained.

He didn't know what to say.

"You still have to take them, so you'll have better behavior." Daddy told me.

"It's not fair! Tommy and Lilly don't have to take them and none of my cousins do, I'm the only one. People think I'm weird!" I cried.

Tommy and Lilly came downstairs and sat at the table.

"Happy birthday guys." I said, quietly.

"Thanks, Emmi." They replied.

"Emmi, you know you have to take this, so don't even try to argue about it." Dad told me.

"Mummy wouldn't make me take them! I wish I never had to come live with you !" I screamed at him, then ran downstairs to the Man Cave.

I hid in the closet, he will never find me.

"Emmi, please come out." Tommy's little voice called.

"Why should I?" I called.

He came into the closet.

"There you are!"

"What do you want?" I asked.

"I want you to come out, my birthday won't be any fun without you." Tommy said.

I crossed my arms.

"Please, Emmi. Uncle Niall will be here soon." Tommy begged.

"But dad will make me take the medicine." I said, still refusing to swallow those pills.

"Just take it." He shrugged.

"That's easy for you to say! You don't have to take medicine to live a 'normal' life. I even have to take it to go to sleep, Tommy! It's not fair!" I said, angrily.

"What even is normal?" Tommy asked me.

"Well, I-I don't know." I said, thinking hard.

"Exactly, now come on." He said, dragging me out of the closet.

"You can make me go, but your can't make me enjoy it, Tommy."

"Whatever, Emmi." He did an eye roll.

"Lose the tude, dude."

We walked into the kitchen and dad half smiled at me. I sat down at the table and started eating my breakfast, I noticed my pills were gone.
