Not what he seems

This will be an interesting chapter here, and part of you already knows know what’s happening. What will happen? Well let’s see.

I woke from a nightmare, my heart racing, sweat rolling down my forehead and my head pounding. I clutched my blanket tightly and tried calming myself down. Count to ten, count to ten. Honestly, I’d don’t know why I was scared. I know I had a nightmare, but I can’t remember what it was even about. The fear I had in my dream still echoed through my mind, telling me that I was in danger. There was a threat near, something was coming. But I don’t know what!

I sighed and laid back down on the couch. I turned over onto my side so I could face the living room. A dark silhouette of something was sitting very close to me and jumped up over the couch to get away quickly. I hit the ground with a smi-loud thud and pressed my back against the couch. I waited a second before peaking over the back of the couch and breathed a sigh of relief.

"P/n, you scared me." I climbed back onto my sleeping spot and looked at my pet deer. He was just sitting there looking at me expectantly. I tilted my head at him to ask what, and he tilted his head back. That got me nowhere.

"Y/n? you ok?"

I looked up at my mom who was half asleep, holding a baseball bat ready to strike and had her pink fuzzy robe and slippers on. She looked around the room for whatever intruder she thought there was. "I’m fine mom, I just fell off the couch." I reassured her and had her lower the bat. Mom nodded and yawned. "I thought I heard some of those strange sounds again."

I nodded. For the years I’ve lived here, in this reality at least, I’ve woken up to hearing strange sounds, a weird light somewhere in the woods, and the ground rumbling as if an earthquake had happened far away. There’s been many stories about what it was: UFOs, airplanes, gases, earthquakes and the northern lights at the same time, ghosts or even a creature that lurked at night just waiting to attack. I didn’t believe any of them then, but now I think something has to be up. I just ruled it off as normal since it’s been happening for years now. I haven’t given it a second thought.

"They seemed stronger this time though." She set the bat down, leaning it against the wall, and sat down next to me. P/n just kept looking at me, a bit creepy now since he doesn’t seem to be blinking. Uhhh, spooky.

"What time is it?" I yawned. She looked at the clock and rubbed her eyes. "Uhhh, 4:30. I’m not staring the day now." Mom gave me a kiss on the forehead and then stood back up to start walking to her room. "Good night y/n, part two. Sweet dreams."

"Good night mom." I said to her as she walked away, dragging the baseball bat on the floor lazily. I smiled and then laid back down. I covered myself up with my blanket and shut my eyes trying to get comfy. But the hairs on my neck started to stand up again and I peaked open my eye. P/n was still starring at me.

"Go to sleep." I told him and turned over so my back was to him. P/n nuzzled my back with his muzzle and whined. I groaned and sat up looking at him. "What is it? It’s too early and y/n wants her sleep." P/n just sat there looking at me. A minute ticked by and I flipped back onto my side facing him just in case he did something else. Nope, he just nuzzled me again and I sat back up. "P/n…" I groaned and rubbed my eyes. He tilted his head, his ears perking up. I tilted my head, also but this time something different happened. P/n stood up and went to the window. I decided to get up and see what he was looking at. I pulled aside the curtains and looked outside.

The ground vibrated a little, stronger than normal. The weird ringing that was usually faint was louder and the light that shown was really bright. It was coming from the woods, kinda where the mystery shack would be now that I think of it. "Huh, that’s odd." I mumbled and looked closer. The light died, the sound stopped and the ground went still. P/n then trotted over to his little bed that I had to put out in the living room with me and laid down. I shook my head, “What a weird deer.”
