Amelia's POV
Today was the first day back after summer and I was ready for it.
I walked into my en suite to find the outfit I laid out the night before; a plaid green pleated skirt, grey jumper, over the knee socks and brown knee high boots.
I put on a black headband to keep my curly hair out of my eyes, a heart necklace and applied some mascara and thin winged eyeliner to maybe pull some attention away from the tiredness of my hazel eyes.
"Amelia, honey, come down for breakfast!" my mother called from the dining room.
I ate a few blueberries, toast and drank orange juice before grabbing my bag and kissing both my parents goodbye.
As soon as I got onto the bus, 'Iris' by the Goo goo dolls began to play from my phone.
"Hello?" I asked, forgetting to check the caller ID.
"Heyy it's Abbygael!"
"Hi Abby, how was your summer?" I smiled at how eccentric she was.
"Great! My parents took me to Spain. It was heaven, plus I got to work on my Spanish. H-How was yours?"
"My dad had to go on yet another business trip so my mother and I went to Monaco"
"Wow, sounds awesome.. uh, minus your dad not being there."
"Uh huh, look Abby I'm going to have to leave you for now, this is my stop"
"Coolio, byee"
I grinned smiling down at my phone, she was awkward like that.
But before I knew it I had walked into someone's chest and roughly fell back onto the pavement.
"Hey, watch where you're going!" A low voice exclaimed, all I could see were his ripped skinny jeans and band tee.
"I'm so sorry" I replied, with fear at how out of place he looked in this area. Renton-Quay was a place full of privileged kids, basically preps and athletes, and all of them had their futures planned out.
They would all go to a university ranked in the world's top 10, the majority of them would become lawyers and doctors, some families would even attempt to matchmake their child's future husband or wife.
On the other side of town however, Debden Brook, held the outcasts of the area. Those who were less privileged, less refined and less ambitious.
People who would become nurses or life guards. People who would become truck drivers or work in restaurants or might not even go to university.
Those were the types of people Amelia and others like her were raised not to associate themselves with. "They could jeopardise your future" a flashback reminded me, "They are the only obstacles in the way of you reaching your dream uni".
The boy pulled me up roughly and proceeded to walk off.
"How rude" I watched the boy in distaste, catching eye of his edgily styled blonde hair, and dusted myself off before making my way to school.
I was re-united with my best friends on the school's front stairs with screams and a huge group hug before chatting endlessly about our summer and what everyone had been up to.
Only someone was missing.
"Hey where's Cassia?" Indigo questioned.
Indigo was practically the leader of our friendship group, the voice of reason, our second mother. She always seemed to be in control and could always sort out a problem whatever it was.
