"Mmmm," I sigh, stretching my body out in crazy positions. A few joints crack, which sounds like music to my ears.

I stand up straight and trudge into the bathroom slowly, scratching my head. A note was left pinned up on the wall. It read:

Gone to town for an hour or two. Don't worry, you're not alone.

You're not alone?

Ignoring the note, I slide down the banister an hear a flick, flick, flick in the kitchen. Nothing like your usual horror film with the dripping tap - something different.

Flick, flick, flick...

Getting nearer to the kitchen, a scraaaaatch comes from the wooden door leading to it. Like nails scraping down a chalkboard, a loud scream follows and I jump into action. My legs carry me along the floorboards like a flash of lightning and I burst into the kitchen.

All the noise was screaming in my ears, making me turn around and lunge for the exit. The door slams shut and locks automatically, keeping me hostage in my own house.

I crouch down, covering my ears and squeezing my eyes shut. A long, loud sreech leaves my mouth and ends up being continuous.

"AHHHHHHHHHHHH!"

...

And all at once, everything stops. Only my scream fills the house with constant noise until I realise there's nothing to scream about - gradually I quieten down.

"Emma? Emma!?"

I sat up straight abruptly, gasping for a trace of fresh air. Mum wrapped her arms around my shoulders and hugged me close to her, whispering soothing messages in my ear. My heart thumped wildly, my breaths were short and quick. Sweat drenched my clothes head to toe and I felt sick to my stomach.

"You can't go on like this, Em," Mum said gently.

"Why did it happen to me?" I whispered.

"I don't know love, it just did. If you ask me, it was the teachers fault-"

"No it wasn't - it was you! I told you I didn't want to go but you made me, said it'd be fun-"

"How was I supposed to know it was a crime scene there?"

"You could've asked if it was completely safe!"

"The teachers should've checked themselves to see if it was safe!"

"You're responsible for me!"

"Why didn't you research it yourself?"

"Maybe I didn't want to."

"Then you put yourself in danger."

"YOU PUT ME IN DANGER!" I screamed, jumping up.

"STOP BLAMING YOUR FRIENDS' DEATHS ON ME!" she shouted back.

"I... I HATE YOU!"

"FINE!" she shrieked and ran out the door, slamming it shut with such force the pictures on the wall shook.

I sat on my bed, hot with anger and also... Guilt.

***

A/N what happened in the kitchen?! Was it her imagination, hallucination (that rhymes!) or...

REALITY!

And the argument! I mean, woooahh, they were getting into it.

Anyways please leave a vote and comment your thoughts. Next chapter Mum will make a decision. What will it be?
