Hawk Moth quietly lands on the patisserie's balcony, making sure that nobody is around to see him. A clock tower chimes in the distance: BONG, BONG, BONG.
The streets are silent, and sleep seems to be upon the entire city.
Gabriel looks on the balcony for an entrance to the apartment and finally sees the trap door that leads inside. He tugs at the handle and finds it unlocked; a habit Marinette had picked up from letting her Chat in.
He gracefully leaps down onto something soft and bouncy. A bed? With his eyes adjusting to the dark, he stands still, trying to find where the girl is sleeping. That's where the Miraculous will be. He finally spots a dark mop of hair lying on one of the pillows.
'I've got it now,' he thinks.
Hawk Moth inches towards the sleeping figure, being careful not to shake the bed enough to wake her. When he is close enough, he can make out her very Ladybug-like features, the jet black hair being almost a dead giveaway. Yet, nobody had realized that fact before the girl had made the stupid mistake of revealing her identity, including him.
He tucks her hair behind her ear, savoring the moment of his victory, but stops short.
"What?!" He nearly shouts, catching himself.
The earrings that Ladybug always has in her ears are gone.
'They have to be here somewhere!' He thinks.
With that, he leaps silently off the loft and begins his search of her room, tearing every single drawer and box apart. They aren't in her jewelry box, nor in her purse. The Miraculous is nowhere to be found.
'No, no, no!' The man paces back and forth, 'This was when I was supposed to win!!'
He desperately glances back up towards the bed where the shape of Marinette's torso steadily goes up and down from her breathing.
'I can still do it,' he contemplates, then says out loud, "This is my only chance."
Hawk Moth climbs the ladder back up towards the sleeping girl. He grabs her limp body and carries her like a rag doll.
"I'm going to get your Miraculous one way or another," he whispers to her before flying back through the trapdoor leaving nothing but a destroyed room in his wake.
