"No! Get off of me!" I screamed,
But he wouldn't. He just kept hitting me over and over.
I tried to push him off, but he was too strong for me.
"Maybe next time you'll learn to listen to me." My father hissed into my ear.
"But I did! I will!" I screamed, but it was no use. He just kept hitting me.

"Betty! Betty! Wake up!"
I woke up in the orphanage, with my friend Lili looking over me with a very worried face.
"Gosh, Betty. That's the third time this week you've been screaming in your sleep. What's going on?" Lili asked, a worried look on her face.
"He was there again, Lili. No matter what medicine I take, he never goes away. He's always there." I said, sniffing back a tear.
Lili sighed. "Oh Betty. I'm so sorry. What your father did to you was-"
"Elizabeth Cooper." Mrs. Fields called out.
Mrs. Fields' Orphanage was my home for now. Ever since the Bumminghams couldn't handle my "behavior."
When the Bumminghams gave me back to the orphanage after only three months of me living with them, they wrote what the eleven other families wrote when they gave me back.
"Too distant, hasn't talked since she got here, very disrespectful, very loud in the middle of the night, won't open up to us, won't listen to rules, often sneaks out, caught with drugs and alcohol.
They don't understand. None of them do.
When I was three, my mother died in a car crash. Up until I was seven, my father would come home drunk and beat me. It lasted until he beat me so bad that I had to go to the hospital and he disappeared. For the last ten years I've been in foster homes.
The longest foster home I had was three years. That was my first one. The shortest was one month. Mainly because I didn't say a word to them for the whole month they had me.
My eighteenth birthday is seven months away, and my original plan was just to stay here in the orphanage for the next seven months and try to make it in the real world when I turned eighteen.
Mrs. Fields told me that I would never get a job, though. Seeing as I haven't finished school and I had 'no people skills.'
Now I gulped as I walked into Mrs. Fields' office, knowing what was ahead.
I was going to another foster home.
"Ms. Cooper, you've got another family interested in fostering you." Mrs. Fields said as I sat down.
She said it like she was surprised that another home actually wanted to foster me.
"You're going there first thing tomorrow morning." She continued. "In Riverdale."
Riverdale? Riverdale was a long way from New York. It's my hometown.
I ran my fingers through my black hair and started tangling a piece of blue hair between my fingers.
"But Mrs. Fields, why don't they just foster someone in Riverdale? New York is so far away, and it's probably more expensive." I said to her.
"Exactly. More money for me." Mrs. Fields said with a smile. "Now, go pack. You're leaving at 6:00 am sharp. Two hours. Go go go."
