On the first day of my new job, I lay awake in my bed for a solid hour before the alarm, because I am just so excited to finally start working. The alarm seems to take forever to start ringing, but, when it finally does, I leap out of the bed and quickly get dressed in my black pants and a black blouse, that I like to wear for special events. And this day seemed to be a special even to me.
In a hurry I drink my morning tea, talk to mom and then I am off to work. Anna is already there, when I arrive, but it looks like she's the only one a half-an-hour early. "Good morning, Anna!" I greet her happily, prepared for my first day in the movie industry.
Anna seems impressed, that I'm here as early as her. She hands me the contract to read over it and sign it, which I manage to do before everyone arrive. The pay on the paper shows that I get paid weekly, for which I am extremely grateful, and the pay-check itself is quite impressive and much more than I ever dared to expect.
When I've signed the contract, a lot of people have already arrived, and Anna introduces me to her co-producers.
"Alex, Matilda, this is Emma. She is my new assistant." Alex, who is a tall man with blond hair and bright blue eyes, looks just like a movie star. As I understand, he's not, though. He is the producer here, much to girl's all over the world disappointment. He would look amazing on the big screen. So would Matilda, who is a slim, tall woman with high cheekbones and beautifully defined eyebrows, similar to that supermodel Cara.
They both greet me warmly and we talk about the movie industry and my audition for a brief moment. I am still embarrassed that I didn't get the part, but Alex cheers me up, saying, that there will be other auditions and there will be better crew for movies - for example, this crew.
Anna goes on to talk to the cast mates, who are also arriving to the set. There is a beautiful, blonde girl, who's face looks so innocent and angel-like, that you almost don't notice that she's wearing all black - a leather jacket with pins attached to it, ripped jeans and black army boots. She looks smoking hot, but, as I find out from Matilda, she is set to play the naïve, kind girl Thalia in the movie.
A boy also arrives, and our eyes instantly meet. Though I'm feeling a bit shy meeting all these people, I realise I can feel even shyer. Thanks to the gorgeous, handsome stranger, striding across the room towards Anna, still throwing glances at me.
"Who's that?" I ask Matilda and Alex quietly, as we walk over to the coffee table, where every cast and crew member can help themselves to a cup of coffee or tea and some light breakfast.
"That's Andrew. He's totally gorgeous, obviously, but don't get too flirty with him, girl. Romance here is strictly forbidden. You don't want to end up like Bethany, do you?" Matilda winks at me as she takes a big bite of her cheese croissant.
"Got it." I murmur and make myself a cup of camomile tea.
"EMMA! Can you come here?" Annas voice rings through the room and I quickly abandon my tea to see my boss. When I approach her, she is talking with Andrew and the gorgeous blonde actress. Anna smiles when she sees me and then gestures towards the acting couple.
"Emma, these are Andrew and Nicole. Part of your job will be to help them change their costumes for the movie and help them if they have any problems. Not like their personal assistant though - only I can ask you to get me more coffee." Anna giggles. "But you will need to help them sometimes."
I turn to Andrew and Nicole, feeling shy because of the intense gazing Andrew is doing. "Nice to meet you. My name is Emma." I shake hands with Nicole and then turn to Andrew, who holds my hand a bit longer than people usually do when hand-shaking, but nobody seems to notice that, thankfully. I would rather die lonely than get sacked because of romance on set. I can't risk something so important for some on-set fling. I would never risk my mother and I's future for flings. Never.
