After a couple of hours, Andrew and Nicole are done filming, and it's time for a group shoot. As I find out from Alex, this group is supposed to be the bad guys, who party and drink all the time, and are about to destroy Thalia and Caleb's (that's who Andrew is portraying) relationship, because of past mistakes that he's made, regarding their relationship.
The bad group is already dressed in sort of a skanky and dark style. Girls are wearing fishnets and dresses so short that they are constantly being pulled up and down to cover their decency while they're not their characters, and guys are dressed into dark coloured t-shirts and ripped up jeans, that I have a strong liking for. Even more so on the bodies of the three attractive boys, that I don't allow myself to check out, reminding myself about the rules and my mom.
There are two girls in the group - both pretty, of course. It is starting to feel like I'm the only one here, who isn't extraordinary beautiful.
My eyes are in the most boring and common colour there can be - brown. It's not like they're beautifully brown, like chocolate, but they are light brown. Like shit. Like actual dog poop. My hair is also brown and annoyingly wavy. There is never a good curl day. It's either curly like a poodle or straight/wavy like a homeless person. I can't do the between thing.
The girls both have colourful hair, which is only for their characters, Alex tells me. The shortest one is rocking hot pink hair, made into a messy bun on top of her hair, while the other one, who is extremely slim and has long limbs, has her hair coloured black with blue highlights. They both look amazing, even though they are so poorly dressed.
The three guys are talking about yesterday's football game, which isn't even the tiniest bit interesting to the two girls, so they just look bored and even a little bit hangover, which, I'm sure, can't be the case, because they are supposed to be sober on set. Right?
Matilda comes to sit down next to me, and we share a smile. Though she must be a few years older than me, she looks like she could be around my age. At least I wouldn't give her more than 23. Dressed in hip, modern clothes, she is perfectly escaping her own thirties and making someone like me ashamed of the way I dress at my 21 years.
"So, how is your first day of work?" She asks, offering me skittles that she pulls out of her designer hand bag. It is a Michael Kors bag, I'm sure of it. I recognise the familiar logo that's dangling down from one of the straps.
"Oh, it's just amazing. I feel so happy that I get to work her." I smile, and, filling my mouth with the skittles, I realise how hungry I actually am, and that I should've eaten some breakfast at home. Or even at the set, right now. But I can't make it to the table anymore, because the group shoot starts and Anna is already telling me what to write down.
The group does amazing with the filming job, even if the girls look a bit hangover. It turns out the girl with the pink hair is supposed to be slutty and all over Andrew's character, while the one with black and blue hair is secretly jealous that everyone is giving Nicole's character all of the attention, especially because she's acting like a prude angel.
After the shoot, the group leaves and Anna tells me that it's lunch time. Though my stomach is already screaming at this point, I know darn well that I don't have any money, so lunch will be a no-go for me. I look at the breakfast table and realise that, at some point, someone cleared the table of food, and now it only serves as a drink table. Crap.
I am feeling extremely uncomfortable, but I can't hide it anymore. I am poor. I can't go out to fancy lunches. I just can't. "Anna, I, um... I can't afford eating out. I have literally no money left." Looking down at my feet, I reveal Anna my shame and embarrassment.
I don't really expect Anna to tell anything else than 'Too bad, wait for us here, then', but Anna pulls me in a sideways hug. "Oh, Emma, don't worry, dear. The lunch is paid for. Everyone gets free lunch everyday."
Hope blooms in my chest and I rise my head to look at Anna, who's face is less than 20 centimetres away from mine. "R..really?" I stutter, still embarrassed that I am so poor, but also excited that this is such an amazing job and I will finally be able to fill my growling stomach.
