Even with the baka Sasuke abandoning the village their was still work to be done. I disliked this day. The day you was born was normally a happy day for kids. For me it was a reminder. Every birthday my parents would try to marry me off to some petty noble. I would hide or 'convince' the man I wasn't worth the time. I did like the fact that I was being sent on a solo mission. It was a simple checkup on a listening outpost. It had gone quiet and it worried the Kage. I made my way quickly to the location.
The Hokage was right tobe worried. Everyone at the place was dead. It all looked like some ritual killing. I summoned Nyx and asked her to examine the victims. It only took hwe a few moments to identify what had happened. "This was the work of a Jashinist. I can see the ritual signs clearly." I nodded as I examined the ritual. "Pathetic! Such petty tricks are useless." I sensed it in the nick of time as I ducked and slid out of the way of a scythe. "So the petty cultist desires to show his face? I have no time for your ranting." He cussed me out as I pulled out my bingo book. "You must be Hidan. Your petty god won't help you with me." He glared at me as he rushed me with his scythe. He managed to nick me but I knew how his ritual worked. When he tried to perform it only for it not to work I laughed. "I told you fool. That trick won't work on me. Maybe I should show you the real power your missing out on. I had a wicked grin as I showed him the blood soaked kunai. "Not so fast are you. Oh well its time for you to suffer. I began the handsigns for a jutsu I knew would hurt. "Blood release: blood funeral." His eyes widened before blood began gushing out of him. My jutsu cut him to pieces before I finally let up. His head was cussing up a storm and I just sat their laughing as I took the files he had stolen from the base from his coat. "Well I'd love to stay and chat but I have to get these safely back to the village. I can sense your partner nearby and I don't feel like fighting anymore. Next time we meet however ill be sure to end you ok?" I patted his head like a dog as he yelled and cussed a storm of words. Wow bad language much. Oh well time to leave. I left quickly and was back in the village as I saw Tsunade bringing in a near dead Naruto. I immediately ran up to the and helped them carry him to the hospital.
I wasn't much use to the injured since my healing skills were subpar compared to the full time medic nin. I was spending my time scolding Shikamaru who was busy feeling sorry for himself. "So big deal mission failed. At least everyone survived. That's what's important. Now quit sulking." I heard Shikaku laughas he came up to his son. "Remind me to never ask you to give a motivational speech. But she has a point. Mission failure or success the important thing is your team is alive. As a ninja you have to face facts. You have to put your team at risk in order to succeed. If you can't do that then you shouldn't be in charge." Shikamaru looked thoughtful for a moment then nodded. I left him after I was sure he was ok to go turn in my report.
