The wooden bridge to Sanctuary seemed like it was stretching on for miles, but when MacCready's boots hit the concrete on the other side, he huffed out a huge sigh of relief. The sun had fully risen and everyone was awake to do their jobs. A few settlers had given him some awkward stares when they saw the sleeping baby in his arms, but their attention was quickly diverted to their blood splattered General.

"The General is back!" One patrolman called from atop the finished guard tower, and a group of minutemen greeted them at the entrance.

Dawn looked alarmed as one of them fretted over her. "I'm fine, don't worry. No, don't," she pushed past them to make her way to MacCready. She stalled as if she remembered a thought. "Preston's been shot, take a look at his arm."

MacCready shook his head before he walked further into the settlement, but he slowed down his pace as Dawn caught up with him.

"Let me take her," she said as she held out her arms, but MacCready kept on walking. "W-wait, Mac!"

"Don't wake her up," he hushed. "I'm gonna take her to Jun and Marcy. Get yourself cleaned up, you look a mess."

Dawn scoffed as her arms slapped back to her sides. "You're mad at me, I get it."

"Good observation skills." God, she's not taking the hint. He made sure to walk faster without jostling the baby.

"Fine. Fine...but I need to talk to you later." And with one last huff, she stalked off. Finally.

He ambled down the cul-de-sac as he searched for the Longs, tucking the baby a little closer to his chest. They were usually by the gardens at this time, and when he reached the allotments he spotted Jun right away.

"Hey, Jun."

Jun looked up from the tato plant he was tending to, but the smile on his face turned into shock when he saw the child MacCready was cradling. "What the..." he shook himself from his stupor before he hastily ran over to him. "W-why have you got a baby? What happened?"

"We found her after we wiped out the Raider camp." MacCready carefully shifted the bundle as he handed her over to Jun. "Your General nearly got herself killed after charging in like some idiot, but I'm gonna have words with her about that."

"Is she hurt?" Jun checked over the baby for any signs of injury.

"I've already checked her over. She's fine. I don't know the last time she ate, but I remember you mentioning your wife having some formula."

"Yeah, we have some," he moved the blanket to get a closer look at her face. "Does she have a name?"

The sniper shook his head. "No. You can name her."

Jun's eyes shot up to meet his. A mixture of emotions flashed across his face, but it eventually settled into a contentment MacCready had never seen before on the man. Baby held tight in his arms, Jun gave the sniper a grateful smile, then he turned as he made his way back to his home.

"Marcy! Come here, quick!"

MacCready stood back to watch, not wanting to disturb the couple further. Marcy stomped outside at Jun's call, her face twisted in her usually sour expression, but she softened as she saw the bundle in her husband's arms.

"What's going on?" She fretted as she walked circles around him. "Who's baby is that?"

"They found an her. She's ours, Marcy."

Her jaw dropped open, and she was momentarily shocked as she openly stared at the baby. But she composed herself - business as usual - and she tutted when she gently collected the baby from Jun.
