I can't help but chuckle a little as I look out at my family. Both my parents are ignoring everyone except each other. Hakeem and Tiana are mugging each other. Dre is sitting lonely because Carla isn't here. Noble is admiring mercy as she sits starring at raven who seems utterly depressed. The twins are playing with their mash potatoes. Xavier is helping to feed Amiri. Skye is texting with her hand tightly gripping my leg. I don't think anyone is enjoying this dinner or even here for the right reason.

"How's everything? Anyone enjoying dinner?" I ask loud enough to draw in everyone's attention.

"Of course we're all enjoying dinner, why'd you ask?" My mom questions finally removing her eyes off my dad.

"I don't know just seemed like everyone was focused on their own things instead of family" I say.

"If we weren't focused on family we wouldn't be sitting down having dinner right now" dre snaps.

"Anyone can sit down and have dinner. If we're not talking about what's going on in our lives then what's the point?" I ask.

"Aw lil mally mal wanna talk? What's going through your mind big brother" keem sarcastically asks.

"Well nothing" I say with a smile. "My life is actually getting back on track, y'all are the ones with the fucked up lives" I add.

"My life is fine boy, I don't know what you're talkin bout" my mom snaps.

"You've been staring at dad like a piece of meat all night long"  I joke.

"Just cuz I'm starring at your father don't mean nothin" she quickly says making my dad chuckle. I don't know what freaky shit they got goin on but I don't wanna know.

"Anyways" I say looking over towards dre. "Where Carla?" I ask.

"She couldn't come. Her mom needed her for something" he sighs.

"Aw dre you in love?" Keem shouts.

"Man shut up" dre snaps.

"Ooo that's a yes" Noble says.

"You can talk boy. You literally got hearts in your eyes starring at mercy" keem jokes.

"Hop off" Noble quickly says as mercy face turns red. Ray mumbles something but nobody really catches it except for me.

"Ray what's up?" I ask looking over at my little sister.

"Nothing" she plainly says. She looks so unhappy.

"Are you sure?" I question.

"Mhm" she mumbles going back to playing with her food. Both my parents seem to catch her mood but neither of them say anything.

"Okay. Well um keem, T what's up with y'all?" I ask looking over at my little brother.

"Man nothing. Stay outta our business" keem snaps making Tiana roll her eye.

"Sure don't seem like nothin" I comment.

"Why are you so interested in everyone else's relationships? Nobody hassled you when you and Skye were having issues" my brother counters.

"Relax Hakeem you're brother just cares about this family that's all" my mom defends me.

"I-" I'm cut off by ray.

"Can I be excused?" My little sister asks.

"You barely touched your food" my dad points out.

"I'm not hungry" ray says.
