Marina's POV
I was standing outside of Q's office, listening to him talk to Elise. I left Archer with Wes in my room and went to finish my story with Q.
"We are not mates!" I heard Q scream. I sat next to the sound proof door, listening in. I've learned if I focus on only one part of my body that, that body part's function enhances. Hence why I can hear him crystal clear.
"I am! Why else would we have a child together?! You know only mates can impregnate each other!" Elise shouted back.
"You know it's different for alphas," the way Q said 'you' was almost bone chilling, " Besides, my real mate is Marina!"
"The seer? What happiness can she give you? Everyone knows that the seer is cursed with a short life? How long will it be until that girl bites the dust? We she even be able to bare an heir for you like me?!"
"That's not the point of a mate!"
"What is the point of a mate? To sate your wolf? To make you happy? That is what children are told, and we both know it's complete b*ll sh*t."
I heard the desk break and papers thrown around. I've heard enough, for I know what happens afterwards and I don't want to hear it.
I walk back to my room almost like a robot. No emotions on my face, no thoughts running through my brain. All I can do is play my part.
"Wes I need your help." I spoke as soon as I walked into my room. A sleeping Archer laid on top of my bed as Wes was already holding a bag of preserved food and baby formula just as I requested.
"You aren't going on some day trip right?" He clarified, looking like he wasn't surprised at all.
"I do not plan on returning, yes." I look at the dried packets of baby formula and estimate they are good for about a month. Perfect. "I know you aren't going to try to stop me and I thank you for that. Just remember, when my brothers come to attack the compound to lock the women and children in the kitchen."
"Understood." Wes smiled down at me, pulling me into a tight hug as I was trying to pack some clothes and diapers I also made Wes buy for me. "Even though our time was short it was nice having the feeling of my daughter coming back to me."
"Thank you Wes." I looked up at the scarred man who gave me a bright smile.
"It's my honor to aid the seer." He suddenly pulled a locket of some sort out of his jacket pocket and handed it to me. "This was my daughter's, well actually my father's who gave it to her."
I opened it up to see that it was a silver pocket watch, a fully functioning one at that with a rose poking out from the center where the hands protruded out.
"I can't take this." I told him.
"But you will take it." He smiled and engulfed my hand in his so my fingers would curve over it. "Your battle gear and weapons are in the bathroom, fully polished and ready to be worn."
"Thanks again Wes, and goodbye."
"Goodbye Marina."
After he left I changed in the bathroom, finalizing everything by tying a scarf around Archer and around my back so he was secure. My battle gear was a bit tight since I gained a bit more muscle and weight but it still comfortably held my daggers and supplies. I made sure my satchel was secure across my stomach and that Archer was sound asleep before walking out.
I quietly and quickly made my way down the halls, successfully avoiding all contact and evading any stares I made it to the cave exit that led to the lake. I looked at the completely dark water, taking out a breathing mask that Wes gave me. He was only able to take one so it wouldn't be that suspicious.
