The Break-Up

I walked into the restaurant Matthew picked out for lunch. He was sitting at a table on his phone, like always.

"Hey," I sat down across from him and forced a smile.

"Hi," Matthew smiled back. "Here, I ordered you a coke," he said as he pushed the drink towards me.

"Thanks," I hated when he ordered for me. The waiter came back pretty soon and we ordered our food. Matthew talked about himself and his new book coming out until the waiter came back with our food. We ate in silence for a while until we were almost finished.

"Look, Matthew, I think we should talk," I said as I looked up from my plate to meet Matthew's eyes. When he didn't say anything I continued, "I think we should break up."

"What? Why?" Matthew looked a little sad and his eyebrows were furrowed. "I thought we were having fun."

"We were..." I did have fun with Matthew but I definitely wasn't in love with him and I couldn't see a future with him. "I like you Matthew but I just don't really see this going anywhere."

"So what, you were just leading me on this whole time?" Matthew asked angrily, his eyes burning into mine.

"No, of course not," I said trying to explain myself. "I haven't been feeling myself lately and you were a good distraction from everything that I've been going through," I paused realizing that sounded like I was just using him. His face was furious now and I tried to backstep but he cut me off.

"You were just using me then? Well, I was just using you for PR anyways." Matthew stood up and looked down at me. "I should have known this was going to happen," he whispered to himself but just loud enough for me to hear, "all women are bitches." He threw some cash on the table before storming out of the restaurant.

Well that went well. I thought to myself. I stayed seated for a while before leaving. I wasn't very upset by what Matthew said, I was just relieved it was over. This was the second step to getting back to myself, the first having been making up with the girls. After I finally left the restaurant I walked back home. It was about a 40 minute walk but it was nice outside and I love walking. It helps me clear my mind.

I spent most of the walk thinking about Lauren and how I was going to see her for dinner. I stopped in my tracks when I realized I didn't know what time I was supposed to arrive at the Jauregui's. I moved to the side of the path and pulled out my phone. I clicked on Lauren's contact to message her but for some reason I was too nervous to type anything. I didn't even know if this was still her number. After a few minutes typing and retyping my message to Lauren I finally sent the text.

Camila: Hey Lauren, it's Camila. You might know me as everyone's favorite ex-Fifth Harmony member... Too soon? Anyways, I was just wondering what time I should come over for dinner tonight, if the invitation still stands. I don't have to come if you don't want me to. Just let me know!

I read my text over and over again as I waited for Lauren's reply. I should have left out the part about me being the favorite in 5H. I thought it'd be funny but what if she thought I was being serious? God, why do I care so much? I looked back down at my phone to see Lauren typing. Shit I thought as I exited out of the message window. I didn't want her to know I was just waiting for her reply.

Lauren: Pft please. Everyone knows Big Rob is the favorite. I'd love for you to come to dinner. Mom says it will be ready at 6, but we all know her too well to believe she'll be on time so come over around 7. See you tonight.

I couldn't help but smile like an idiot at her text. I locked my phone and continued on my way home. I got home about 10 minutes later, a little after 2 pm. As soon as I walked through the doors Sofi embraced me in a big hug. No matter how recently I'd seen her she always greets me this way.
