Seriously how was I so dumb? I stayed at my desk thinking about how obvious my feelings for Lauren were even way back then.
"Kaki!" I heard Sofi calling me, snapping me out of my thoughts. "Pizza's here!"
"Coming," I yelled back down.
I put my journal back with my others and headed down stairs. I grabbed the plates, bowls, and spoons from the counter before joining my mom and sister in the backyard. They sat on a blanket with the pizza and ice cream. We sat, eating and talking until it was dark. Sofi and I started a tickle fight which Sinu was intent on avoiding at all costs. We ate our ice cream and stayed outside until it was late.
"It's getting cold," Sinu noted. "We should clean up and get inside."
Sofi protested but eventually gave in. We gathered all the food and dirty utensils. I folded the blanket and headed inside. Sinu said she was tired and kissed up both goodnight before heading to her room. I followed Sofi into her own room and sat on the edge of her bed.
"Do you really have to go?" Sofi pouted as she got beneath her covers.
"You know I do, Sofi," I said apologetically as I combed my fingers through her hair.
"Yeah, I know." Sofi sighed. "I just wish I could come."
"You have school," I reminded my younger sister. "I'll be back soon. You'll barely even notice I'm gone."
"We're going to facetime every week right?" Sofi's sad smile broke my heart.
I hated leaving but I loved touring and performing. It's always a bittersweet goodbye.
"Of course," I said smiling at Sofi and I noticed her eyelids falling. "Go to sleep Sofi. I'll call you tomorrow."
I stayed with Sofi until she fell asleep. I was just about to leave Sofi's room when I got a text from Lauren that she was almost here. I smiled widely at the thought of being with Lauren.
"Hey," Lauren smiled as I opened the front door.
"Hi." I wrapped my arms around her and leaned my head into her chest. "I'm glad you came."
I pulled away and grabbed Lauren's hand to lead her inside. I closed the door once we were inside and Lauren followed me to my room. My room was the only one on the first floor. We sat down on the side of my bed, our feet dangling off the edge.
"So," I said elongating the word. "How was your day?" I asked feeling like a teenager talking to their crush.
"Better now," Lauren replied smuggly. "It was actually a great day, considering I spent most of it with you."
"You never stop with the smug responses do you?" I chuckled as Lauren rubbed the back of my hand with her thumb.
"Nope," Lauren said matter-a-factly. "So, where's your first stop on tour?"
"Brazil," I said chuckling. "They were always the biggest camren shippers." I recalled all the times we had performed there and the crowd would go insane everytime Lauren and I did as much as look at each other.
"God, don't remind me." Lauren joined me in my laughter. "They made me miserable."
"Why?" I asked realizing Lauren had always been so against camren shippers for some reason. "I mean I know it was annoying and a little much but why were you always so angry when people shipped us together? You didn't mind it in the beginning."
Lauren paused for a while, probably trying to remember what she felt back then.
"I guess I just didn't want to put pressure on our relationship" Lauren said after a while. "I knew you didn't know what you felt for me and I didn't want the thought of us actually being together to scare you off."
"Makes sense," I said recalling how poorly I reacted when Lauren brought up the idea of us being in a relationship. "I actually used to watch camren crack videos. I thought they were hilarious," I admitted unashamed.
