"Sergeant Platt!" I say as soon as I go into the station.

The woman behind the desk smiles slightly and leaves her place to approach me and receive me with a little hug.

"Thank God you're visiting us, Voight hasn't stopped crying since you left," she says making us laugh.

When I am about to say something else, the door to the stairs opens and I see Erin coming down quickly until she reaches me and embraces me. It was only luck that we didn't fall to the floor.

"I missed you so much!" It's the first thing she says and that makes me smile.

"And I missed you too" I answer and turn to Nick who stays close but at the same time gives us some privacy. "He's my partner, detective Nick Amaro... They're sergeant Trudy Platt and detective Erin Lindsey."

I introduce them and while the sergeant shakes the hand of my partner, Erin hits me with her elbow, I hit her back and I hope Nick doesn't realize, but the one who realizes is Hank, who watches me for a few seconds and his look says 'We'll have a talk later'

"We investigated" Erin tells us when we are on our way upstairs "in his old district they only praise him, are you sure it's him?"

"That's what the database says" Nick says and I agree with him even though he doesn't seem too convinced, Erin just sighs.

"There will be time for you to talk," says Hank as soon as Kevin and Jay stand up to see me "He is Detective Amaro, they are Detectives Olinsky and Halstead, and Officers Ruzek and Atwater"

Nick nods and they do the same, I grimace at the look of Jay who shrugs in my direction.

"What did you investigate?" I ask, seeing Ruzek go to the board to start placing sheets on it.

"Harrison Becker" begins to say by placing the picture I had sent to Erin "He graduated from the academy in 1976... he never raised his rank, he stayed as a patrolman until five years ago when he retired. There was a complaint about inappropriate behavior in 2005 but was withdrawn two days later "

"Why?" I ask and now the one who answers me is Kevin.

"The girl pulled back, said she was drunk and misinterpret everything"

I turn to Nick but I can't decipher his look.

"Do you know her name?" I ask, taking out my notebook to write down.

"Alena Rogers" Kevin answers reading the sheet he has in his hand.

In the background, I see that Alvy and Hank say something, so I pay attention and watch them making everyone turn towards them.

"Something wrong, sergeant?" I ask getting him to turn to me.

"Yes, he studied with us at the academy" he says denying "He's one of the good guys"

"Have you had contact with him?" I ask ignoring the last thing he said.

Hank shakes his head, instead, Alvy nods.

"We talked a few months ago... he got divorced last year," he says with a shrug. "I can go to his house"

"I'll go with you," says Hank, taking a few steps forward.

||

"Do you think it was a good idea?" Nick asks once we go in the car that Hank has lent us "I mean, Voight and Olinsky met Harrison"

"They would never interfere in an investigation" I respond immediately "Not if it's ours"

"Do you know them well?"

I stay a few seconds watching the street on the windshield. I know where he wants to go with that question and I'm not sure I really want to tell him everything.

"I've known Hank for... a couple of years, ok? Before working under his command in Intelligence, I knew Olinsky and Platt almost at the same time," I say hoping this is enough to calm his curiosity.

"And Erin... you went together to the academy?"

"Yes" I answer and the truth is that technically I'm not lying about that "And since you want to know about my old unit... Antonio, whom you haven't met, I met him in narcotics, he was my partner for two years and I met the others when I got to Intelligence"

"How did you meet Hank?"

"You won't forget it, won't you?" I ask turning to him when we are at a red light.

Nick smiles and I feel something inside me stir. It's all he needs to do, to get my world upside down.

"In college I had problems and Hank helped me" I answer, and for the look he gives me, I explain myself better "When I left university, I didn't have anywhere to go, so I spent a couple of weeks in the street, Hank found me and offered me help"

"Why didn't you go back to New York?"

"It's a long and difficult story," I say shrugging my shoulders and turning to the windshield again. "If I had, we wouldn't be having this conversation."

"We would, you would have entered to the academy there"

"Probably, but I'm sure of something, my life would be miserable if I hadn't met Hank"

Nick doesn't say anything else which I appreciate, but when the car starts moving again, he says something I didn't expect him to say.

"You said you had met bad cops"

I nod and refrain from turning to him, I know he has trouble asking the question that is in his head, but he doesn't need to do that, I know what he wants to ask.

"Narcotics is a place ruled by men, at least here in Chicago," I say, not feeling so uncomfortable with that issue "I was the only woman in the unit and let's say my sergeant wanted to order me to do things that were not part of the job"

I can feel Nick tense at what I say.

"I lived with inappropriate comments for two years, until one day my sergeant tried to go further"

"He tried?" He asks and I feel his gaze on me.

"Antonio stopped him" I answer "That's how he came to Intelligence, obviously he was fired of narcotics for assaulting a superior"

"And what happened to the sergeant?"

I nod my head a little and sigh.

"He's Lieutenant, now" I laugh a little and I shake my head when I turn on a street.

Nick is quite serious, I had never seen him that way, I mean: Of course I've seen him angry and many times it's even terrifying, but all those times had been in the office for the cases.

"Did he fire you too?"

"It's not like I would explain it" I say smiling "Hank offered me to work in Intelligence and although at first I didn't accept it, you know, I didn't want to let my boss win... but when I wanted, he didn't want to sign my transfer for three months"

Nick lets out a bitter laugh.

"I guess Antonio told Hank the incident, 'cause one day he called and told me he had talked to him. The next day my papers were signed on my desk"

"He talk to him?" He asks raising one of his eyebrows "Well... Hank doesn't seem like the kind of 'talk'"

"My sergeant had a wound on his cheek so I wouldn't bet he just 'talked' to him either"
