It was a busy couple of months before Natasha was reminded of her nightmare and note. By now most of the avengers had moved out. Only Steve, Sam, Wanda and Vision remained. Sam and Steve were mostly out trying to track down the Winter Soldier, a name that still caused Natasha's heart to speed up.

Today had been one of those extremely busy days. She had been to a press conference, established new covers and created several safe houses around the globe using different IDs. All she wanted to do was take a shower and sleep.

Unfortunately, as she came in, she spooked Wanda who reacted instinctively and sent out a red pulse of magic. Natasha was blown off of her feet and sent hurtling into the wall. Steve missed most of the blast but was still knocked over. He rushed over to Nat at the same time as Wanda.

They both crouched over her as she groaned and rubbed her head. Wanda sent a tendril of her magic to probe Natasha's brain, just to check if there was any damage or trauma.

All of a sudden the red head froze and adopted a trance like state. Wanda reeled back in alarm as she realised what was happening. Steve however drew closer and grabbed Natasha's arms.

It wasn't long until Natasha's head snapped towards him and the next thing Wanda knows is that she's gone and Steve has a dislocated shoulder. She watches as he grits his teeth and pops it back into place. They both run out into the hall to try and find the potentially dangerous assassin.

They find her in the dark shooting range, wedged between the racks of weapons. Her knees are drawn to her chest and her nails are dug into her palms. Her shoulders shake and Wanda approaches her cautiously. She gently reaches out to touch her on the shoulder. Cap moves to give them space but ends up knocking over a dozen throwing knives.

They clatter to the floor and Natasha's eyes dilate. She springs up like a cat and Wanda throws her hands up into the air and traps her in a cocoon of red energy. She puts Natasha in a comatose state and helps Steve carry her to her room. They leave the agent on her bed and Wanda undoes the magic. They leave her room quietly as she starts to wake up.

Later they hear the shower going in her room and decide to just leave her be. When she doesn't turn up for dinner Wanda puts a plate in the fridge for her incase she gets hungry in the night. She bids Steve goodnight and goes and knocks on Natasha's door. Everything is silent inside. There is no movement and no noise. Eventually Wanda gives up and leaves.

On the other side of the door Natasha sits with her back resting against her bed. Her head is buried in her hands as she curses to herself. She allowed herself to break down in front of the team. Steve will look at her with pity and Wanda will feel guilty. When the others find out she will be seen as weak and pathetic. She can't be sidelined.

When she woke up from the sleep Wanda had put her in, yay another way she looked like a weak and pathetic damsel in distress, she had gone for a shower and changed her clothes. A white parcel with a neatly tied ribbon had sat on her bed. At the time she couldn't be bothered to open it but now she needed a distraction.

Rising, she retrieved it from where it had fallen to the floor. She unpicked the bow and lifted the lid. Inside lay a shining silver pair of manacles. The metal cuffs lay in folded swathes of blood red satin.

Her reaction was much the same as she had had with the note. She froze and then rammed the lid back on the box before shoving it in the bottom drawer of her dresser. Her hands shook as a result of Wanda's earlier probing and she bit her lip in an attempt to stop it from quivering as a tide of memories tried to push their way out. She took a deep breath and clenched her fists. Sinking into the bed she focused on her breathing and trying to control the increase in her heart beat.

She methodically went over in her head who would want to screw with her this bad and eventually slipped into unconsciousness.

Unfortunately that held no release for her either. Fractures memories from her past rose up and plagued her. She felt her heart breaking and woke herself up with the name James on her lips. None of it made sense and she so desperately wanted to understand. She knew that she had been apart of the Red Room who had at one point cooperated with Hydra. It was after then that her memory became fuzzy and unclear. James was the one solid thing in it all. The only downside being that she was no longer the solid thing in him since his memory was constantly erased.

She got up out of bed and went to the bathroom. She ran the cold water tap and dunked her head under. Feeling much more refreshed, she returned to her bedside and subconsciously rubbed her wrist as she stared at the bottom drawer of her dresser. Pushing the temptation aside, she double checked her door was locked and returned to a hopefully more peaceful slumber.

It was early the next morning when Natasha woke and felt something restraining her. Her wrist was cuffed to the bed post and she didn't have a key to get out. Her digital alarm said it was only 5am and she was in too much of a sleepy haze to really care. It was only when she woke up hours later with no cuffs on did she wonder what had happened.

Her door was still locked and her windows still closed. The box didn't look like it had been disturbed and she would have doubted her memory were it not for the circle of dried blood and red marks of chaffing on her wrist.

Someone was playing with her and she was determined to find out who. She got up with the sole purpose of finding answers. What she did not expect was to find Clint Barton standing at her door with a breakfast tray and message from Director Fury telling them to be in his office in 10 mins top.
