Flashback to Marco and Jackie's date

Jackie's  P.O.V
"Marco I'm so glad we are here together. This feels...nice."

Marco looked into my eyes with his dark chocolate eyes. Marco took me to my favorite place, the carnival. So far we had a blast! Freeing a lobster, getting any food we wanted and winning prizes.

"Me too." Marco leans in and hugs me gently. "There's no place I'd rather be." I realize after he said that, it reminded me of how he actually felt when Star left.

"Take off your shirt." Marco quickly gasped and backed away.

"Uhh right now?"

"Come on just do it!" I walk closer to him and pull out the cape Star gave him.

"What!? How'd that get in there?" He starts looking for an excuse on what to tell me but I refuse. I walk to a bench and sit down. "Let's talk."

I pat on the seat next to me for Marco. He walks towards me and sits down.

"I can explain. I mean I can take this off whenever I want. But I'm fine." I shake my head with sorrow and sigh. "Look, today was awesome and it's really sweet you're trying but if you're forcing yourself to stay at Echo Creek just so I'll be happy, then we'll both end up miserable. You do see that right?"

Marco's jaw drops open with fear. "So I figure, now's a good time to give you an out." Marco grabs my hand and squeezes it gently. "I wanna make this work. You're my best friend Jackie!" Marco gives me a sad look. I just adore his face but I know it's going to become complicated either way. "Oh Marco."  I give him a peck on his right cheek. "We both know that's not true." I set down my skateboard and buckle my helmet. Before I leave I speak my last words to Marco.  "Stay amazing, ok?" Without hesitation, I skate down the path away from the carnival. All of my past left behind me. Goodbye Marco Diaz.

-Present-

I'm Jackie Lynn Thomas. I'm 18 years old and I graduated from Echo Creek Academy in 2018. Now in days I skate when I have the chance to. My skateboard takes me wherever I choose. Most of my time I either hang with my other friends or go places with my family. But sometimes I still think. I think about him. Marco. Marco Ubaldo Díaz. Ever since we broke up, he's never talked to me. I haven't spoken to him neither. I had to do it. I had to save our relationship. I knew deep in my heart he was hurting. I can't stand to see him so sad like that. If we continued like that, him and Star's friendship would be ruined.  It's been almost 4 years since we've last spoken. He hasn't even messaged me. But that all changed one night. I was chilling in my room watching Netflix. My phone buzzed and I turn on my phone to see Marco messaged me. "Hey, I know it's been a while since we've talked but can we?"
