 "Riley!"

 "Riley Cruze!"

I opened one eye reluctantly 8:10, it was Saturday morning and judging by my weekly itinerary there was more sleep to be done.

"RILEY LIAM CRUZE"

Wait a minute, three names all said in a very angered female voice, my eyes flung open just in time to see my mother pull off my comforter exposing my bare skin to the frigid morning.

Her lips were pressed into thin line, her eyebrows furrowed and I had been triple named, what did I do?

"Can you please explain to me why in the hell your clothes reek of alcohol?"

I stared at my mom like a deer in headlights; I had totally forgotten to wash my clothes. I darted my eyes to the ground, looking into her eyes right now would be worse than gazing into Medusa's.

 "I went to a party," I whispered.

"YOU WENT TO A PARTY WITHOUT MY CONSENT?!" I gulped probably not the best thing to tell her.

"I went with Caitlin mom she invited me." Saying I went with Caitlin was like saying angels were the chaperones, her face lightened up and the returned back to its original state.

"That the does not explain the reason why your clothes smell like it's been worn by sailor." My eyes travelled around the room, nothing I was going to say was going to get me out of this.

"He wasn't drinking Mrs. Cruze," Caitlin said appearing in the doorway, she had on a pair of shorts, a tank top and was sporting a heavy case of bed hair. "There was a bet" she yawned, "it was a joke and Riley lost so he got beer poured on him, but he never drank." I closed my eyes wishing Caitlin hadn't spoken.

         "YOU WERE GAMBLING AND DRINKING!!"

My mom's eyes seemed to bug out of her head. I fell back onto my bed making myself comfortable for the rant I was about to receive. "You told me you were visiting Benny............."

"The place better be spotless." After her ten-minute rant, I was sent to the basement as my punishment. My task: to clean up the place that nobody had stepped foot in in two years. I stood at the top of the staircase reluctant to go down.

"Lets get this done and over with" Caitlin said walking past me down the stairs.

Dust covered ever inch of the basement, a true testament to its uninhabited state. This was going to be tedious. I glanced over at Caitlin who had already begun moving boxes "You don't have to help," I said.

She shrugged and pulled on her gloves "I don't mind; besides I made you go to the party."

A cloud of dust arose from the box I was carrying tickling my nose, "Actually you didn't bind me to anything, I chose to go by my own free will. Therefore if any consequences are due they should be due to me and me alone seeing as it was my choice."

Caitlin rolled her eyes, "Do you always have to be so philosophical, why can't you ever just let me apologize for something?" I shrugged and moved on to another box.

After three gruelling hours of dusting and arranging the basement looked as clean as a hounds tooth.

"We did it" Caitlin said putting her arm around me.

"Well I did 70% of it, you can lay claim to the other 30% but I don't really think it fits in with your ratio of texting 99% of the time we spent down here." I said playfully trying to play off the nervousness, I felt with her being so close to me.
