Badica Hill was shaken. Less than a month after a teenage boy was found brutally slain, in the forest, two others were attacked and found lying in the middle of the road. Seventeen-year-old Savannah Hill was found with her throat ripped and slashes across her chest. Her blond hair was matted and ripped, blood stained her clothes and body. The other was, eighteen year old James Sullivan, commonly known as Sully. He had been found unconscious beside Savannah, with only a few scratches on his body. What was happening to this quiet little town that barely anyone knew existed? Sully had been lucky or so people said. He was lucky that he had lived, but the trauma that would come after was anything but luck.
Sully had to be moved to a private hospital room because he had wild outbursts in his unconscious state, screaming at the top of his lungs yet still comatose. When he regained consciousness, he was delirious, speaking of a wolf attack. A wolf with glowing green eyes, midnight black fur, and sharp carnivorous teeth that was the description Sully kept giving the doctors or so I heard through the small town grape vine. Wolves, wolves, wolves, he kept repeating. The doctors extended his stay in the hospital for fear of brain damage because as everybody knew, there were no wolves in Badica Hill. But could he have been right? Nothing about the attack said human committed, but every single detail of it screamed animal mauling. Could there be wolves in Badica Hill or maybe some other ferocious beast was lurking around in our backyard. I could have backed his story after my own horrific encounter with a wolf but after everything he had done to me, he deserved to stay restrained in the hospital. He had been attacked, but definitely not a wolf, because THERE WERE NO WOLVES in Badica Hill!
Or were there?
April
The bus was completely empty, with the exception of the driver. His grease slicken hair was a dark mess atop his head, his mustache a bushy unkempt muddle crowning his lips. The smell of cigarettes and beer wafted out through the slightly open windows of the long beat up bus.
He was speeding down the road driving recklessly down the deserted road, when I stepped in front of the bus. The bus screeched to a stop and he squinted at me a cigarette wedged between the corners of his lips. I jumped up slamming my body into the windshield; a crackle went through it, sending the driver into hysterics. Slowly I moved from the front to the side attempting another jump. After three anger sparked adrenaline fueled jumps, the bus tipped over. Shards of glass flew out in all directions on impact making me cower to avoid being cut. I looked to where the driver lay blood running down the side of his head, his eyes glazed over and still. “No more denying people rides” I thought to myself. I manoeuvred my way through the field of glass on the road moving away from the bus when one shard of the bus’s side view mirror stopped me in my tracks.
My blood froze cold, my heart ceased to beat. I wasn’t staring at the geeky black kid Riley Cruze, I was looking at a wolf. Black fur, neon green eyes.
