Fields of heaven

Chapter 21:

We walked calmly towards the house. This was my first invite over any friend's house, and it felt special. "So, how are your parents like?" I said feeling nervous. She laughed. "Oh Leanna, they won't bite!" She said. "Just feeling a bit nervous." I said quietly. "Umm, Leanna are you alright?" She said bothered. "Yeah, I'll tell you later.." I said melancholy. My 'down in the dumps' mood seemed to make Abby concerned. Anyway other than that, their house was colossal, bewitching and grand like ours. There wasn't really a difference, except for their well painted light tan shed, placed by the corner of the mansion.

Abby lazily pushed open the heavy olive door. The house didn't have any pillars but had a variety range of books on the book cabinets placed by the entrance. It was a delicate, elegant mansion with dazzling chandeliers, and it felt very warm and homely. A cute lovely lady stood with a hand full of dinner. "Hi mum, I've missed you!" Abby said giving her a light kiss on the right cheek. "Oh, I've missed you too, and who's this?" She said looking jolly. "This is Leanna, she's new and from America. She just settled in."Abby said looking over to me. "And Leanna this is my mum Karen," She said smiling. "Hi," I said hesitating. "Hello Leanna! Hope your liking Framlingham so far," She said smiling. "Yeah, it's great thanks," I said smiling back. "Anyway, mum we'll go upstairs and come down for dinner soon!" Abby said taking two shiny glasses of drinks with her. "Ok come down quickly!" She called as I followed Abby upstairs.

I slowly followed her as she opened her bedroom door. It was a sweet light pink painted room. It was as big as mine with a swingy chair stuck on the ceiling; that had a collection of colourful fluffy pillows. It was amazing! A giant T.V, a cute dressing table, a whole cabinet of books, and a big cozy bed filled with soft stuffed teddy bears. She jumped, sitting on the bed chucking her bag on the side. "Here, sit down," She said taking off her glasses. I sat down just staring at her eyes. Her forest green eyes sparkled in the dim light. "Umm, you ok?" She asked feeling a little uncomfortable. "Oh yeah, it's just your eyes are so beautiful. Unlike mine.." I said defeated. "That's very nice but your eyes are gorgeous. A mysterious blue sea that sits, sleeps. It's incredible, I love it!" She said comforting me. "Gee, thanks. No one compliments me like that!" I said avoiding a tear to drop. "It's alright, chill ok?" Abby said. "Yeah, I guess." I said feeling hopeful.

"So, what's the 'secret' you wanted to tell me?" She said giggling softly. "Firstly, it's not a secret and secondly I don't want to tell you now." I said feeling insecure. "Oh c'mon you mentioned it, now you've got to tell me!" She demanded but still in her sweet tone. "But you are obviously gonna blab your mouth to the whole world; like everyone else." I said. "No, I would never do that. Listen I'm not like them, you can tell me. Just trust me," She said in full faith. I wanted to let her know, she seemed really trustworthy. No one made me feel like this. She was this really sweet, concerned non-biologically sister: I never had.

"Ok, well there is a guy. A stupid playboy that I had to fall for, all he wanted is to take advantage of me. I loved him so much, I waited for him. No text reply's, no sight of him. He was gone. It's just all to much.." I burst in tears ruining my make up, and not finishing the rest of my awful past story. "Hey, hey. Please don't cry, he was not worth it. No guy like that is, all of them are desperate bastards!" She said giving me a gentle cuddle. We chuckled together. "Yeah, thanks. Your really sweet, and the only best friend I ever had." I said happily, wiping the tears. "Awwh, it's alright. I'm there for you, don't you worry!" She said smiling really wide. "Leanna, Abby, time for dinner!" Karen calling out from downstairs. "Right that's mum, means it's time for dinner. Let's go!" Abby said getting off the bed. "Let's go," I whispered.
