Ma'iq the liar. the mysterious Khajiit who wanders Skyrim alone without a caravan and is a recurring character from the Elder Scrolls series. He wears a robe speaks in riddles and is according to himself and his title accused of being a liar. This chapter will mention some encounters I had with him.
So I had joined the Companions became a werewolf and had just killed some Silverhands. I was still in beast from wandering the wilds chasing elk when a Khajiit walked by me and spoke. It was Ma'iq. He looked at me and mentioned how the people of Skyrim are not as understanding but he is much more open minded. Okay WTF? So he not only knows about werewolves is not afraid of them but is open minded enough to speak to one? Seriously how can he be fearless at times, and other times run screaming from mudcrabs like they are dragons or some other horrific monster? I fear we may never truly understand who or what Ma'iq is and why he is so strange.
Another day I was walking near Dawnstar when I saw Ma'iq standing near a dead nord. I thought OMG did he kill this guy, maybe self defense? Or maybe the Khajiit is actually insane and a serial killer? That is until I saw what else was by the body...or shuld I say who else. It was Babette who was feeding on him. The little vampire assassin spoke to me happily saying how she was out hunting for food. All the while Ma'iq stands there watching as if a several hundred year old little girl vampire killing people infront of him and drinking their blood is perfectly normal. Okay seriously it's like very little scares him.
Now listening to Ma'iq he will speak in riddles or tell strange stories that cannot be true. Like now that dragons have returned he claims they actually were always around but were invisible and very quiet. Another story he claims is that he was once trapped in a soul gem. Anyone who understands soul gems know only black soul gems can hold a soul like his and to be in one you must die, and your soul after being used is sent to the soul cairn. Now that makes the story of his impossible at first. Until you learn there is a soul gem that perhaps he is speaking of. Azura's star is a deadric soul gem which never breaks and only takes white souls. But was corrupted and now takes black souls such as Ma'iq. My character even went inside the star to purify it. So like his story I have been inside a soul gem. So is it possible he is telling the truth and Azura sent him inside her star once...or maybe like other things he says which only make sense later on was actually a form of prophecy about your character being inside the star one day?
Another way his riddles and lies may be a strange prophecy at times was his statement about dragons always being around. Keep an open mind for this. But Alduin being the main dragon the one who resurrects the others technically did never die. Perhaps somehow this strange comment was his way of trying to explain that. Becasue Alduin had been cast through time traveling through time and space but never seen or heard until now. Much like his claim, always around just invisible and quiet. So maybe this strange Khajiit actually knows much more than he lets on and more than he should? Or he is just insane and what he says somehow at times ends up making sense if compared to certain situations.
Ma'iq claims his name was his father's name and his father before him. This may be why in every Elder Scrolls game despite being spread out over centuries there is always a Ma'iq the Liar. His family passes the title to the son. But if so he too will name his son Mai'iq the Liar? But he needs a mate for that and is never seen with anyone else. Nor was any of the past Ma'iqs. And if it is a family title why? Why call yourself and your child a liar? Obviously just some strange easter egg right? But still interesting nonetheless when you think about the possibilities of his comments being prophecies. I mean maybe he started out as a joke character for the creators but is actually going to play a major role later on? Is it possible Ma'iq is some form of time traveler, or even god? Hard to say. Most likely not and just a fun character they like to keep in each game. But it would be interesting if there actually is more to this Khajiit than meets the eye.
