Chapter 19 - One sided conversations

Jamie

I wish I could say I cried, but I didn't. What was there to cry about? I just sat there, not blinking; not speaking; unmoving. All I said was 'it's not your fault', I was just speaking the truth. Maybe I was being inconsiderate and not caring for his feelings. But, how was supposed to know he snap? I was only trying to help. What else could I do?

I really should go and apologise to him. But they thing is, I have no idea where he lives. Groaning in frustration, I ran a hand down my face while wondering what to do. I stood to switch off the TV. With nothing to do, I plodded towards the fridge. I want to fill myself up with comfort food but I'm not reall that sad. Is it because deep down I knew we would make up somehow? My head snapped towards the front door when there was a knock at it. I hurried over to it and swung it open revealing a very wide eyed Chase.

"Look, I'm sorry. I know you were trying to help but I just couldn't accept it. I truly am sorry and I understand if you don't want to see my face again. But, I just wanted to apologise." He blurted out.

"I-" He cut me off before I could even get one word in.

"Please don't be mad at me. Well, you should really, but I don't want you to. I got mad for no reason because I'm an idiot. I let my anger out on you when I shouldn't have. I'm sorry, just forgive me and then I can be gone, it doesn't matter if you'll like me anymore. Actually, I does matter but lets not worry about that right now. So yeah, I'm-"

This time, I cut him off with my lips. He froze for a second before circling his arms around my waist - finally computing what was going on. I ran my hands through his hair as I slowly closed my eyes. It was strange because one minute he was practically telling me his life story and the next he’s completely and utterly silent. Not only that, but this is the second time in one day I’m kissing him. All thoughts about Molly and his little outburst are now forgotten. Was it right for me to cut him off? Should have I let him speak? It was quite obvious right now he didn’t exactly care. And neither did I. When we pulled away, Chase shot me a small smile that made my heart flutter.

"I want you to meet Molly," Chase breathed out.

I nodded in agreement. Taking my hand in his, he pulled me out of the house. Before he dragged me towards the motorbike, I managed to quickly snatch my keys off the window and lock the door. When I was about to get on the bike he stopped me to get my helmet on. Carefully, he put it on my head then did the strap at the bottom letting his fingers graze across my skin staring a fire just under my chin.

His arms wrapped around my waist as he pecked me on the lips, "I think we should argue more often," Chase admitted, "Hopefully, next time it will be make-up sex,"

A gasp escaped my lips as he patted my butt just after his statement. Wiggling out of his hold, I lightly slapped his smirking face, "Perv,"

Shoving his own helmet onto his head, he got onto the bike and motioned for me to follow. Abiding to his gesture, I hopped onto the bike and curled my arms around his torso, holding onto him tightly. Before I knew it, we were speeding down the road.

There's always a certain smell that hangs around in hospitals. It's not necessarily good and it's not bad either. But, being in a hospital brings back memories that I don't want to relive. As I followed Chase into the hospital, he walked straight past the reception nodding towards the lady sitting behind it. He must be here a lot. She gave him a sincere smile after his gesture before looking back to the computer screen that she was previously looking at. When we entered the elevator it was just us. Not one of us said a word so we stood in silence. Although it was more of a comfortable silence than anything, I still think the air should be filled with words. The only thing that broke the silence was the ding of the elevator as we reached the floor we wanted to be on.

"She's just down here," Chase motioned down the hallway before walking down it himself. I continued to follow in his footsteps until there were no more steps to follow. Being a gentlemen, he opened the door for me and let me walk in. The first thing I saw was red hair splayed across a pillow, seeing as it was a complete contrast to the pure white hospital room, I'm not surprised it was the first thing I set my eyes on. Her skin was almost as pale as the covers surrounding her body. Faint freckles were dotted across her face, her cheeks rosy.

"Hey Molly," Chase whispered walking over to her bed, "You ok?"

Silence filled the air as Molly remained still, "I want you to meet Jamie, my girl-," He hesitated for a moment, "Erm, my friend,"

Chase turned to look at me with a small smile gracing his face. I stepped forward and took hold of his hand because he looked on the verge of tears, "Hi, I'm Jamie. As Chase said,"

Slowly letting go of my hand, he pulled two chairs forward and placed them next to her bed. He took a seat in one while I sat in the other, "You two are so alike," He admitted, "I think you'd be great friends," He swallowed visibly and rested her hand against his forehead.

"I'm so sorry. I'm so, so sorry-" He was cut off when the the door creaked open.

"Chase?" A young timid voice asked. Turning in our chairs, we faced the shy speaker.

"Lucy? How's it going!" Chase chirped, no longer all choked up.

A red haired little girl runs into the room and pounces onto Chase, her pig tails bouncing up and down on each side of her head. At the top of each pony there was a purple bow tied neatly. She was a mini version of Molly - her sister.

"I'm good!" She beamed, "Who's this?" She looked expectantly at me.

"I'm Jamie, Chase's friend," I greeted and smiled.

"Hello, I'm Lucy!" She returned the greeting my sticking out her in which I shook.

We spent a good couple of hours with Lucy. She was very sweet. I also met hers and Molly's mum. She was nice too. But, Chase seemed a bit hesitant talking to her. He shouldn't have been though. Her mum seemed very understanding and I' sure she wouldn't have blamed Chase for anything. Molly was good too, she condition was fine and she was healthy. So when she wakes up, the worst thing she'll have is a sore throat from not being able to talk.

Before we knew it, it was late and we had to get back home. Although Chase was going to drop me off back at Aunt Maggie's, I told him not to after we passed my house - there was a car in the driveway. I told him not to worry and that I'd call him later (which I will). So now I stand at the front door of my house with an unknown car parked in the drive way. Taking the key out of my pocket I put it into the door and unlocked it. As I opened the door, voices floated through the rooms - my mothers and a male. I walked towards the kitchen where the noise was coming from. I saw mum was sitting on the counter stool while talking to a man whos back was to me.

Stepping into the room, I spoke up, "Mum? Who's this?"

She turned around quickly in panic along with the man who turned around more casually. My eyes widened. No. It can't be. He can't be back. Not now. He said he's stay away he said he would stay away! My heart started pumping faster and faster. This is a dream, no, this is a nightmare! He shouldn't be here! What's he going to do? I need to protect Harry, I won't let him get in harms way.

The man's lips curled into a sinister smirked as he leaned on the counter top, scrutinizing me, "Hello, sweetheart,"

I couldn't control my anger as I spat out, "Father,"
