Jenna walks into the living room seeming disgruntled as I flick through the channels on TV. I know there's nothing to watch but I need to occupy my mind somehow.

"What are you doing? We're about to leave. You haven't even showered yet!" she exclaims, fixing her earring.

"I told you, I'm not going." I frown.

"You didn't tell me that!" she exclaims.

"Didn't I?" I mumble, rubbing my tired eyes.

She frowns concerned and sits on the sofa next to me. She presses her hand to my forehead.

"Are you getting sick?" she questions worriedly.

"No I'm just tired. I haven't been sleeping lately." I tell her.

"Maybe you should see a doctor. Or talk to someone. You haven't been yourself lately." she suggests.

"You mean like a therapist?" I laugh.

"You need to talk to someone, Kells. You're bottling things up and it's not healthy." she tells me.

I feel a little guilty. She's obviously worried about me.

"Jenna, I'm fine. I promise." I sigh.

She wraps her arms around and kisses my cheek.

"Okay, just don't forget that I'm here and that I love you." she says.

I smile and rest my head on her shoulder as we fall into a content silence.

A car honks from the driveway, interrupting our moment.

"Tay's here. I have to go. Make sure you eat something, okay?" she says, letting go of me.

"I will. Can you please tell Vic that I'm working? I don't want to upset him." I plead.

She sighs and looks at me sadly.

"His best friend is missing his birthday. He's going to be heartbroken either way." she points out.

I immediately feel guilty again. I've never missed his birthday before. It's a day dedicated to celebrating his existence. It's my favorite holiday. I hate to miss it but I can't be around Carter. He scares me. Besides, Vic probably won't even notice I'm not there. He has a boyfriend now, I'm unimportant.

Tay honks the horn again and Jenna kisses my cheek again before standing up.

"I'll come home later, okay? We'll watch a movie or something together?" she suggests.

"That sounds nice. I kind of miss you lately." I admit.

Her smiles softens and she kisses my head affectionately. The car horn sounds again.

"I have to go." she giggles. "Bye Kells, I love you."

"I love you too." I reply.

After that she leaves.

I sigh and rest back on the sofa. What kind of asshole skips out on their best friend's birthday? It's like I'm trying to make Vic hate me.

I don't do much for the entire night. I just wallow in self pity like I always do.

I'm thinking about ordering some pizza when there's a knock on the door. For an idiotic split second, I wonder if it's the pizza man.

Confused, I get off the sofa and go over to the door. I open it and Carter stands before me. I look behind him, checking for Vic but Carter seems to be alone.

"What are you doing here?" I question confused.

"I could ask you the same thing. Aren't you supposedly working?" he chuckles.
