Sara had one stop to make before going to Marina. She had used out of the money, which Isabella had given her, to purchase accessories, for her disguise. Everything was going as planned!
She had bought everything at The A'GACI. From Michael Kors, to Tommy Hilfiger and Levi's Commuter Jeans. Every item was black. Sara then rented a car and headed for the doctor's office.Scared out of her wits, she wondered if three million dollars were worth the risk. All I have to do is get that document for Isabella, and that is the end of it for me. Sara thought.
She was soon to realise how true her words were.
Driving into a narrow lane, Sara parked behind a clump of trees and turned off the engine. The place was eerily quiet. Not one person to be seen. Even the birds seem to still asleep.
Sara had two hours to spare before meeting Marina. The perfect alibi!
Taking a deep breath, she got out of the car. Securing her black gloves on her hands, she walked slowly to the door. Ensuring that no one was watching, she set to work on picking the lock. Her heart made sounds like a train pounding on the tracks. Every beat, every pressure, making her want to turn around and run. The sudden sound of the alarm almost sent her flying to her car.Gathering her wits, although her body trembled like a leaf in a storm, Sara entered and disarmed the annoying sound, using the code which Isabella had so ably provided.
Sara got to work.
The first room was the waiting room. The scent of antiseptics and medicine, filled her nostrils. Through the hazy glow of the torchlight, which was suspended on her forehead, Sara viewed the sitting area. It looked so warm and inviting. Turning left as she was instructed to, Sara proceeded down the narrow corridor, to the doctor's office. The door was slightly ajar.
Advancing determinedly to the desk, careful to lower her head, so that the beam of the torchlight, could not be seen through the curtains, Sara set to work. The key to the drawer was exactly where Isabella had said it would be.
Sara quickly opened the top drawer.
Smiling with relief, she took out the Manila envelope, on which was boldly written;
"Medical results of Geraldo Hartland."Gleefully, Sara placed the envelope into her handbag and turned to leave the office.
She stopped suddenly!
What was that sound?
Through the silence, Sara heard what seemed like sirens!
The menacing shrill seemed to be approaching!
The sounds grew louder and louder!
"No! It couldn't be!"Terrified and confused, Sara raced for the stairs.
Too late!
There was a patrol car at the front of the house!
She could not see the officers."No! I will not go to jail!" Sara cried inwardly. She ran to the back door. Two officers were distinctly seen through the curtains. All armed and weapons aimed at the door.
"Come out with your hands up!
We know you are in there!"The voice of Lieutenant Ralston boomed through the serenity.
Sara stood like an iceberg as the command was repeated.
Sighing in defeat, still wearing her black gloves, Sara turned the handle of the front door, stepped out and surrendered.
"Keep your hands in the air!
Don't move!". were the orders of the female officer, as Sara's bag was quickly taken away and put into an evidence bag.The officer then pushed Sara against the car, ordering her to spread her legs. The items which were used to pick the lock were also confiscated and deposited into the evidence bag.
Sara was dimly aware of the officer's next words.
Her mind had receded to a blank state."Sara Horsford, you are under arrest .........."
"Anything you say shall be used against you. ..................."Sara was handcuffed and guided to the back of the patrol car.
The Lieutenant got in with her.
The two other officers at the front.
Sara kept her gaze straight ahead, refusing to dispel any emotions or look in the Lieutenant's direction.
"All this for nothing!" thought Sara despondently as the marked vehicle drove away to the station.Geronimo was already waiting for the Lieutenant, who had requested his presence at the station.
Marina, who had stopped to offer condolences to the bereaved family of the deceased doctor, was also on her way to the station, to collect her late husband's possessions.
During the arrest, Geraldo had sat calmly in his car, hidden from view.
Grinning from ear to ear in triumph, he had watched as Sara came out, with her hands in the air.
"What deceit!" Geraldo had exclaimed to himself.Sara had never noticed that she was being followed. So intent was she on getting to the doctor's office.
Geraldo had dialled the Lieutenant as soon as he had realised what Sara was up to.
Triumphantly, Geraldo turned the key in the ignition and reversed out of his parked position.
"It has only just begun!"
Geraldo remarked, laughing loudly.En route to the police station, where he would be meeting his twin, for the first time in weeks, Geraldo shook his head in disbelief as the entire turn of events, continued to bewilder him.
Very soon he will be hearing from Detective Cassio, who was leaving no leaf unturned, during his investigations in Southern France.
Feeling a lot better than he had felt in weeks, Geraldo turned on his car deck. His favourite song was on.
He began to sing along.
Nodding his head along with the music, he sang in:" I can see clearly now, the rain has gone." by Johnny Nash.
