the sun began falling as the stars flew up, dragging the moon along with them. they laid in a sea of pure darkness; blues and purples were no where to be seen because the sky was so engulfed in pitch black. the only source of light was combined with an orangey tinge, while the sound of a crackling fire spread out in a some-what deserted landscape.
"are you feeling any better?" jamison asked the snuggled up lady sitting across from him. he managed to start up a fire with his matches and a couple of twigs to keep hana warm in the icky atmosphere, which was pretty easy since the air was almost dry but still cool.
her back was still aching horribly, so she was propped up onto one of meka's broken parts. jamison helped her drag what was left of her mech near his tent area. a large, white sheet covered the top of his fortress that was propped up with wooden stills he scavenged for. looking down at the fire, she muttered her response quietly. "not really. but it hurts less than before."
"well, that's good! ain't it?" the blonde cheerfully executed his response with his hands on his hips. he swayed back and forth, giggling.
"i guess..." hana said even quieter than before– if it was even possible.
jamison's smile flipped upside down and his posture slouched as he noticed the contempt on her face. "anything wrong, sheila? i have the barbecue if you're hungry."
he picked up flesh off the floor that he threw in the fire to 'barbecue'– or whatever he called it– and handed it over to her with his mechanical arm.
hana's face melted in disgust. "what is that? that's not barbecue." she pushed his hand away and scouted behind her, retrieving the stash of chips that luckily didn't get crushed in the explosion. she popped open one of the red bags and reached inside for a triangular chip.
jamison tilted his head and lifted a brow, eyeing the bag in hana's hand. "so you're sayin' those little crackers are any better?" he snickered.
"crackers? wow, you've really been missing out." the brunette responded as she shook her head. instead of eating the chip in between her fingers, she offered it to the curious boy. "here," she smiled sweetly.
he gladly took the oddly-shaped chip from her small hands, noticing her instant grin while bringing it up close for his eyes to examine. "why does it got those little red dot things on 'em?"
hana giggled at his poor grammar. "just try it!" she urged him, grabbing another chip but this time munching on it.
"well, alrighty then!" he went in for it, stuffing the chip in his mouth whole. he chewed for a while, looking up and rubbing his chin in thought.
on the other hand, hana didn't bother with savoring the taste. she kept snacking and snacking; and before she knew it, the bag was empty and she was left with crinkly plastic. she groaned in frustration, crushing up the bag into a ball and throwing it in the flame. her arms were crossed like a little girl who lost her candy.
"those are alright. but i think that my barbecue tastes better than those corn tortillas." jamison shrugged, letting the female get upset.
hana just sighed, resting her head on her shoulder. at least she got something in her stomach so she could rest, that was jamison's only concern at that point. he honestly didn't know why he even cared that much, maybe being alone got to him? not like he wasn't already absolutely crazy.
but he did wonder about the girl. what was she doing out here, all alone with a ginormous pink mech? she for sure wouldn't have survived all that outbreak. he himself had to go through a lot of trouble and mayhem, and couldn't even get by without adapting a deranged persona. thoughts raced through his mind as he stared at hana's chubby cheeks toasting in the warmth of the campfire.
"stop staring at me like that," hana said in a low voice. she noticed that he was looking at her for a while.
"sorry!" jamison caught himself. "but i was wonderin' about stuffs. because i don't really know much about you. you know?"
she nodded in agreement. "i guess i could say i was thinking the same thing."
"okay but, i've probably got a way longer story than you do!" he replied with a chuckle.
"trust me, i've gone through a lot as well. not that i'm asking for your pity... just trying to prove a point." hana pulled up her knees to her chest, avoiding herself from straining her back. "i used to play a lot of games. i was a gamer. i enjoyed it, and i got paid for it– but obviously my family disapproved of a young girl like me sitting in a chair and playing video games for a living. but i ignored them, and kept doing whatever the hell i wanted. it was great."
"that still doesn't tell me how you got here though? you're still pretty young, right?" the latter questioned.
"well, at that point was the peek of my fame. i'm 19 now– was only 16 years old and i was making a lot of money. my online popularity eventually grew, and i went by the name d.Va. i was so popular to the point where a company let me check out concept art for a new video game that was about to be released, and i really liked it. i was so inspired that i wanted to mechanically build the game's design as well. thats when my robot friend meka was invented. it kept me safe and helped me defend myself when the outbreak arose, which is probably why i'm still here. it was just a concept though. and now that it's gone... i know how much of an amateur i am. it wasn't even your fault. i could've made it at least bearable for a few bombs. i'm sorry if you feel bad." hana took a deep breath and finally looked up at jamison in the eye.
"wowza." was all that managed to escape his mouth. "d.Va, huh? i think i've heard about you back in australia."
