Yoongi screamed as he felt another kick in the ribs. He coughed and looked up at his father, blood running from several cuts on his body. He should’ve gotten used to it by now. The yelling, bruises, cuts. He should’ve learned to not say anything when his dad was around..

Yoongi looked at the corner where his mother and younger sister were huddled together. His mom stared in horror while his sister sobbed uncontrollably into her shirt.

Every other night their father would come home drunk, high, or both. Everytime, it was Yoongi that he directed his anger or other things towards. Yoongi was like his stress ball. No matter what was wrong, he always projected everything onto him.

He wasn’t even their real father. Just some prick that their mom fell for after he walked out. He was also their main source of income so now they had to live with their step-dad.

Yoongi coughed violently, getting blood on the once white carpet below him. He was trying to catch his breath when suddenly Yeonwoo screamed. Yoongi’s eyes immediately went to his younger sister as their step-father slapped her.

After that, he just grabbed a beer and left. Yoongi rushed over to his mother and sister, checking if they were okay and ignoring the blood he coughed up earlier.

They’re okay. It’s okay. Everything’s okay. Yoongi mentally sighed with relief as he gathered the two in his room, hiding in the closet with them. He’d gotten so used to Yeonwoo sniffling and his mom silently crying and hiccuping that it was almost like a lullaby. A disturbing one.

Yoongi woke up the next day to see that his mother and sister had already left. He walked around the house to find that he was alone. He sighed and leaned against a wall, sliding to the floor. He closed his eyes and just wished to disappear.

It was his birthday. Yoongi sat in a corner of his room. Nobody at his school had said anything to him. None of his friends even acknowledged him. Hell, even the teachers seemed to avoid him. No parties like there used to be and no presents. No ‘Happy Birthday’s from anyone.

It was completely quiet in the house and Yoongi kept thinking. What if his dad never walked out and his mom had never married that insensitive prick? What if he didn’t go out of his way to push his closest friend away?  What if everything happened in reverse?

There’d be none of this. No yelling, no drinking. It’d be just fine. From what Yoongi can remember from his father, he was nice. It was just the pressure that caused him to walk out. He still loved them.

He still loves us

He still loves us

He still loves us

He still loves us

He still loves us

No, he doesn’t

He never did

And he never will

Yoongi’s head snapped up to the door as his step-father walked into the living room. Yoongi peeked out from his door to see his step-father doing something to Yeonwoo. Something in him just… Snapped.

He grabbed a small decorative statue and ran at him, hitting him in the head as hard as he could. Everything was blurry and he could only hear someone, that he assumed was Yeonwoo, screaming and crying.

Yoongi stopped himself and dropped the statue as he stared at the pool of blood and pulp below him. His face and clothes had blood splattered on them. He stood up and just stared as the pool got bigger.

He smiled slightly, chuckling. Before long, that grew into a full laugh. Yoongi threw his head back and laughed louder. His vision slowly got clearer and he smiled down at the body.

“WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU?!” Yoongi looked at Yeonwoo, who was now hiding behind his mother. His laughter and smile faded as he looked at them. They were scared.

“What do you mean..?” He muttered, turning to face them completely.

“Y-You do something like t-that and you j-just laugh..” Yeonwoo hid her face in their mother’s arm.

“I just wanted to help you-” He stepped towards them, only for his mother to hold up a broken bottle in defense.

“Stay the hell away from us!”

Yoongi just stared at them as they backed away until they hit a wall. He just stared at them. He couldn’t hear anything and tear began to stream down his cheeks.

He watched his mother get her phone to call someone. It was like that fro nearly 15 minutes. Yoongi just staring blankly at them with tears drying on his cheeks until he heard something.

Sirens.

His mother called the police on him for just trying to help. And honestly, he didn’t blame her. He probably deserved to go to wherever they took him. He deserved everything that was going to happen to him.
