''hey, Y/n?'' I jumped up, quickly looking at the stretcher on which Daniel was laying. He was breathing on his own which made it look like he was just asleep. I smiled and turned to look a Jeff who was sitting next to me. ''Didn't mean to scare you.'' He smiled and looked at Daniel. ''We're about to land.'' I nodded, touching the blanket which was laying over my legs. ''Did I sleep the whole flight?'' He nodded and closed his seatbelt. ''You fell asleep right before take off.'' A soft smile on his lips. I usually never feel safe around people I barely know, but there's something about the Seavey family that made me feel safe. ''Daniel?'' He looked at his son. ''Still stable. As far as they know, the bleeding stopped. They think the surgery was a success.'' I nodded and felt the shaking of the plane after touching the ground. A nurse sat right next to Daniel, holding onto the bed just in case. Jeff took out his phone, texting Keri. ''They're at the gate.'' I nodded and finally unbuckled my seatbelt after a stewardess told us to. We watched them take Daniel out of the plane, following closely behind.
''You sit with him.'' Jeff nodded towards the ambulance waiting for us. ''I'll get the others. We'll meet you at the hospital.'' I thanked him, quickly following after the paramedic. ''Are you his sister?'' I shook my head, wrapping the blanket around my shoulders. ''Girlfriend.'' It felt good being able to say that again. Even though it's been mearly 48 hours, I was happy to call Daniel my boyfriend again. This was just another obstacle we had to fight. I grabbed his hand and stroke over it, the paramedics connecting everything to his body they needed to. I just watched Daniels chest raise and go down again. He looked so peaceful.
''He'll be alright.'' I looked up and saw the man sit down across me. ''I know.'' I said. Because I did know. Daniel wouldn't leave without saying goodbye. He's a fighter.
We arrived at the hospital not much later, with the rest of the group already waiting in front of the big building. I jumped out of the car, hugging the boys. All of them wrapped their arms around me as if I'd disappear as soon as they let go. ''How are you?'' I was getting tired of that question. ''Fine. Finally got to sleep.'' Jack smiled at wrapped his arm around my shoulder as we watched Daniel getting rolled into the hospital. I don't know why, but I felt good. Good because I finally had enough sleep, we were back in LA, Daniel was back in LA.
We walked inside, watching Daniel getting brought into a room. The nurse stopped our big group. ''Only family.'' I looked at Anna who stopped. ''She's his wife.'' I had to hold back a laugh and nodded. The nurse smiled and let me trough. I smiled at the boys. ''We'll take our stuff back home. Call me if there's news.'' Jonah held out his hand and I gave him my key. ''Thank you, lads.'' They all smiled at me and waved goodbye. All of us felt safe, knowing Daniel was finally home.
I entered the room and heard the sound of the blood pressure monitor. It smelled like every other hospital, the neutral smell of nothingness. I looked around to room to see white and blue all over the walls. ''You want to sit down?'' I looked at Tyler who was right next to the bed with the rest of the Seavey family. I nodded. ''I'm Chris.'' I shook the hand of the last family member I didn't meet before. ''Y/n.'' We smiled for a short moment before I looked at the bed in front of me.
Daniel laid underneath the white covers. His arms were on top of the blanket, next to his body. He looked peaceful. His chest slowly rose and sank. I could see a soft smile on his lips, or maybe I was just imagining it. But just the thought of his smile made me calm down. His hair was flat over his forehead, which I only ever saw right after we woke up.
I missed waking up next to him. It's been a year since the last time I woke up by his hot breath on my neck. I remember cuddling with him, his arms wrapped around my body as if he'd loose me as soon as he let go. His head on my chest, whilst slowly stroking the side of my upper body. I missed his touch. His voice. The way he used to sing under the shower.
''We'll go get some stuff from his house and then some sleep. Do you need a ride?'' I looked at Anna and shook my head. ''I'd like to stay for a couple of moments if that's alright.'' Kari nodded with a smile and laid her hand on my shoulder as she passed me. ''He's home. That's the first step.'' I nodded and watched the rest of daniels family leave the room.
The door closed and I sat down on the chair right next to the bed, grabbing daniels hand. It was warm, which felt weird, knowing he wasn't aware of me sitting next to him. ''I'm sorry, dani.'' I placed a soft kiss on his hand, holding it close to me in fear of him fading away as soon as I let go of it. ''I met your family.'' What was I doing. I kept talking to someone who won't even hear a single word of mine. ''They really are lovely.'' I smiled. ''The boys are getting some rest, so is your family.'' I had to let him know that no one forgot about him. That all of us would be here as soon as he wakes up. ''I'll wait.''
And that I did. I fell asleep on the side of his bed, never letting go of his hand. I only woke up when the nurse was checking daniels vitals, falling asleep right after I noticed her leaving. I couldn't dream. It was just an empty feeling. Nothing but darkness.
''Y/n?'' I jumped up and looked to my side. The boys were here. Looking down I still had my hand wrapped around daniels. The sun light was shining trough the window. ''What time is it?'' I yawned looking at Zach. ''10am. You've been here since yesterday.'' I shook my head, trying to completely wake up. ''You need to go home. Take a shower and maybe unpack.'' I nodded. He was right. I should really get some rest in my bed and maybe even try to get my mind off everything that had happened the past days. ''Daniels family?'' I said whilst letting go of his hand and standing up. ''They'll get here this afternoon. We'll stay with Daniel, don't worry.'' I smiled thankfully and gave Corbyn a hug.
I turned to Daniel and gave him a soft kiss on the forehead. ''I need to go shower and change, ok, love? I'll come back as soon as possible.'' I softly stroke trough his hair, smiling at him. ''I'll drive you.'' I looked at Jack and thanked him quietly.
''We were thinking about going to the beach tomorrow, to get our minds off everything.'' Jack quickly looked at me before looking back at the road, both of us scared of something like what happened to daniel, happening again. ''Sounds good.'' He smiled and so did I. All of us needed to get out. Even if its just for an hour. I knew it wasn't healthy to stay in the hospital for ever. Leaving Daniel felt weird, but all of us knew that he wouldn't want us to stay and wait until he wakes up. ''We'll pick you up tomorrow at around 10.'' I nodded and got out of the car, thanking Jack again before entering my apartment building.
