A loud shattering noise woke Patton from his peaceful slumber on the couch, suddenly noticing how empty his arms felt, then no longer being filled by Virgil's soft hoodie, warm skin and silk like hair. He sat up slowly, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes and mumbling the others name, calling out for him. He yawned. Once again rubbing his eyes and reaching for his glasses.
A small whimper made his jaw snap shut and eyes shoot open.
Virgil.
He scrambled to his feet, the soft, light purple blanket he had cuddled up under slipping to the floor as he did so. His tired feet stumbling towards the kitchen as quickly as possible as that was where the only light that illuminated the room came from.
As he turned the corner he stopped dead in his track.
Virgil was sitting on the kitchen floor, the tiles around him covered in glass shards and what appeared to be jelly, crying his eyes out.
"Virge." his soft tone of voice would have normally calmed the other down but now his head snapped up, eyes wide in fear as if he thought he would be yelled at.
"D-dad I- I just wanted to make us some breakfast and I- I broke the jar. It just slipped... I-"
Patton shushed him softly, kneeling down next to Virgil, careful to not get any of the glass or sweet substance on his jeans before he slowly pulled Virgil into a hug.The other had a bad habit of repressing any and all frustration, causing him to have full on breakdowns over the littlest things once his mind couldn't handle it any longer.
"Kiddo it will be fine I promise. We'll-we'll buy another jar...
Its fine you're... You're fine."They stayed in the same, slightly uncomfortable position for about thirty seconds before Virgil pulled away, Patton making sure that it was the darker trait who did because he never knew how much the other truly needed the comfort.
Once he did so Patton got onto his feet again, holding out a hand for Virgil to grab, a tender, only slightly sad smile on his lips as Virgil wiped his tears away with his sleeve before grabbing hold of his hand, effectively being pulled upwards and into another hug.
After a bear of silence Virgil let out a wet laugh, the noise quite and pleasant to Patton, it letting him know that he was alright, for the moment that is, but still alright.
"I really freaked didn't I?"
"Just a little bud. We all do sometimes."
"Hey Pat?"
"Yes kiddo?"
"Thanks"
