Meeting back by the tree with soft breezes I'm within the scent and those eyes. I wish to never wake up because once I do they'll be gone. Her eyes seem so familiar. Much like mine but so different. Was she an outcast too? Did people fear her or love her? What's her name? How old is she? Where does she live? All these questions invaded my mind. I tried to ask her but my mouth wouldn't allow the questions to flow through. Hearing loud beeping sounds in the background that gradually got loud I panicked knowing I would be leaving soon. The scenery started to disappear slowly.
"W-wait! Who are you?!" I yelled out looking around seeing that she was already gone. All I got was empty silence and then the bright light of morning.

"Good morning Mitsuki!" Sota and Kagome's mom greeted me as I made my way down for breakfast in our school uniform.
"Good morning Ms. Higurashi and Sota." I greeted back politely and sat down to eat. Kagome soon joined us after. Eating the Gohan that her mother made we sighed in contempt. This isn't the first time I've stayed over with the Higurashi family and had a morning with them. It happens rarely but it happens. I guess you could consider me and Kagome as friends but I don't like to think about that.

"Kagome you and your friend Mitsuki should both come out to the shrine! I have some things to show you!" her grandpa rejoiced.
"Grandpa we don't have time to see your dusty old toys." Kagome shot at her grandpa. Ouch, that's gotta hurt and I was right on the money. As fake tears streamed down his face he dramatically cried out, "don't you love your old grandpa!? And they aren't toys!" cracking the smallest smile I decided to help the poor old man out.

"Actually.. Kagome I think I would like to see. I've never seen any of these old dusty relics." I scratched behind my head.
"See! Someone is at least interested! How would you like to be my new granddaughter!?" her grandpa shouted dramatically while pointing at me making me fake an awkward smile while rubbing my arm.

"A sacred jewel?" the raven-haired girl beside me questioned.
"Yes! This jewel will bring happiness and prosperity without fail!" the old man rejoiced. I tilted my head at the look of the sacred jewel on the end of the keychain Kagome held in her hand. Why does it look so familiar? I couldn't keep my eyes off of it. She held up the keychain with a mini plaque of Japanese characters and a purple jewel dangling from the bottom.

"You're selling this marble thing? Keychain charms are out of style!" she protested.
"It's a secred jewel and I think it's pretty cute.." I mumbled while still staring at it not noticing the small look she gave me. I wasn't helping her case. Her grandpa now holding up another small chain that now caught my attention held a pink version of the jewel. I liked the purple better so I went back to staring at that one.

"It's no ordinary keychain! Like Miss Hamada over here said the ball on the end is a sacred jewel...this shrine's..huh?" her grandpa got cut off noticing at the same time as I did as a catspaw appeared from nowhere. The paw started to attack the purple jewel Kagome held. Kagome getting distracted starts to tease the cat with the keychain while her grandpa coughs catching our attention. He glared at her and the cat.

"Now heed this, Kagome and Mitsuki. The origin of the shrine's secret jewel... Huh?" getting cut off again he noticed she is still playing with the cat. Raising his voice slightly in hopes of catching her attention again " The origin of the sacred jewel is.." getting cut off again only this time by Kagome herself.

"hey, Gramps! Remember what day tomorrow is!" she clenched the keychain in hope. I sighed wanting to hear the history of this jewel that felt so familiar.
"Oh, how could I forget my dear granddaughter's birthday?" he replied. Wait it's Kagome's birthday tomorrow?? How did I not know? I'm a horrible person.

"A present for me?!" said raven-haired girl exclaimed excitedly. Holding a weird-looking hand in her own hands she looked at it incredulously while I looked with curiosity.
"The mummified hand of a water imp and it should bring happiness. In fact, the origin of that is..." getting cut off again by Kagome she disappointedly held it out to the cat.
"Have a snack, Buyo." The cat bites it and starts to walk out.

"No, don't give it away!" Her grandpa shouted as he tried to catch the cat only to fall on his face which made me crack a small grin. I shouldn't find that amusing but it was. Kagome tugged my shirt and I took that as it was our time to go. Walking back to the house I stopped in front of a large tree. I couldn't place my finger on it but it felt familiar too. What's up with everything feeling familiar today?

"That's the sacred tree." Kagome's voice rang in my ears. Turning to her "Sacred tree?" I questioned then looked back at the tree. Everything here seems sacred.
"The thousand-year-old sacred tree. The legends of the hidden well. Everything has some origin. I've been told the stories countless times. Yet I never paid any attention to them." she explained. I only gave a small hum in reply.
"Come on we gotta get our things for school." I nodded my head even though I was still attentively staring at the tree. Finally, give in I walked after her.

Packing our things into our school bag and organizing our project onto her desk for later we got ready to head out for school. Before heading out Kagome got a phone call about some notes and then she sped off grabbing my hand and yelling a quick goodbye to her mom. Running past the small hut she stopped making me almost slam into her back. Putting my hands on my knees to catch my breath I looked up to see her little brother by the door of the hut with a small bowl. God, I am out of shape.

"Huh, Shota?" she questions quietly walking up to him while I slowly follow in suit.
"You're not supposed to play around here," she warned. I looked over her shoulder to see a dark and empty room with a staircase that led to a creepy-looking well with a bunch of papers on it. Raising a brow I looked at the small boy in question. Why would a kid want to play here?

"I know but Buyo.." he replied in worry. The cat? Did he go down there? Even so, how did he even open the door?
"Did he go into the hidden well?" Kagome voiced my question. We all three walk in and stood at the top of the staircase which leads down to the square well.

"Buyo! I think he's at the bottom!" the small child called out and informed.
"Why don't you go down there?" Kagome questioned. Looking over at her with a raised brow.
"This place gives me the creeps." the small boy replied in a worried voice. Poor kid.
"Such a scaredy-cat. Be a man!" she teased.
"Why don't you go down there then?" I replied to her teasing with my arms crossed and one of my brows raised. She looked back at me with a disapproving look. I really haven't been helping her cases today.

We all turned to look down at the well when a faint scratching noise came from below.
"Somethings down there!" he shouted as he hid behind me and Kagome. He ended up clutching himself to my leg which caused me to give a small smile as I placed my hand on his head to calm him down. Her family is the only people who aren't afraid of me so it brings me joy that he seeks shelter from me when he's scared. I'm surprised though that her grandpa hasn't brought up my eyes.
"Stupid. It's the cat! Awe, man.." Kagome muttered out. She began to walk down the stairs and the scraping noise is heard again. Yep scraping sound happens again as she walks down the stairwell.

"That sound? From inside the well?" Kagome mutters. Furrowing my brows in confusion, "Inside the well? But it's sealed shut?" I questioned myself. Kagome lets out a scream and in turn, sota frightened by her scream clutches to me for dear life while letting out his own scream.

Opening his eyes he rejoiced, "Buyo!" said cat rubs against the raven-haired girl's leg, and she picks him up standing in front of the well.
"Don't scream so loud you scared me sis." the boy clutching to my leg yelled out.
"Watch it. I'm down here 'cause you're 'too scared'." the scratching sound is heard again which concerned me now considering she's holding the cat.

"Sota stay here," I warned gently pushing him off my leg. I descended the stairs with caution as light is seen through the cracks of the wood. The planks keeping the well sealed started to rumble before bursting open.
"KAGOME!" I yelled out as she looked up from the cat to me. The vortex of energy turned into 6 hands which made me gasp.

"Sis!" Sota screamed in fear. Finally turning bed head around Kagome let out a small huh as the arms grabbed her from behind and the cat jumped from her arms running past me.
"Kagome!" I yelled again as the arms started to pull her into the well. Rushing down I clasped her arm in my hands to try and pull her out but unfortunately, we were both pulled into the well full of light.
