He smelled like rain.
I rested my chin on the palm of my hand as I watched the pencil in his hand write in his notebook.
I took a deep breath in taking in his intoxicatingly good scent.
It wasn't that he smelled exactly like rain, but that he smelled sweet, but still fresh and calming; he made me feel cozy and warm, kind of how you feel when its raining and you cuddle on the couch with a fuzzy blanket and read a book with a cup of hot chocolate.
I looked up at his perfectly chiseled face then back down at my notebook before he noticed.
His desk is directly next to mine, as we are partners in Economics. My heart about sunk and fell out of my ass when Ms. Johnston announced he would be my study partner out of everyone in the class.
I could feel that some of the girls were jealous, but I played it cool.
That was when Mr. Green, the principal, knocked on the opened classroom door then entered, "Ms. Johnston, a word please?"
"Of course. Class, work with your partners on the questions for chapter 2 in your notebooks!"
Cole turned in his seat and looked at me. I instantly felt my whole body heat up.
"So, I got started on the first few," he slid his notebook closer to me. "You can copy the answers down if you want."
I smiled slightly then looked at his notebook. I hadn't gotten started yet because of my staring. I should probably work on that if I want to pass this class. I wrote the answers down then slid it back over to him. I looked in my own textbook to start the next question.
"So, are you excited to cheer at the game tonight?" He asked. I nodded, unable to look up at his beautiful face again. It's been a month and a half of Coach getting the squad ready for the school year and I think it's been okay. "I'm pretty excited to play tonight too."
Cole was the quarterback on the football team. Honestly I think this is the first time we've ever spoken. I have always just admired from afar but I was lucky enough to have him in 2 classes this year. Economics and English.
We've been in school now for 1 week and everything has been decent. The girls aren't really warming up yet to me being Captain but Coach has been reassuring me and I hope that I'll be feeling more confident soon. Coach has been taking the lead to get everyone ready so my Captain tasks have been minimal so far. However when I have had a task, it's a little hard to do when the girls don't listen at all.
I know the girls don't think I'm good enough. In fact, if it were up to the squad, I probably wouldn't even be on the team, but Coach sees otherwise. She sees that I'm a hard worker and I stay out of trouble. I'm the only girl who isn't partying and getting into trouble all the time. Plus, I keep my grades up.
Luckily, Naomi is my co-captain so she is a big help. They like her a lot more.
"Yeah, I look forward to watching you guys kill it again," I said, still looking closely at my textbook. I'm afraid if I look him in the eyes, I'll start blushing. It's been awhile since we've cheered at a game! It's been since last school year to be exact.
I always fantasize about Cole and I dating and being the cute football player cheerleader couple and ruling the school. Would it be crazy to think it might be able to happen now that I'm cheer captain?
"Yeah, thanks. There's a party at my place afterwards if you're interested. All of your girls will be there," He said. I assumed he meant the squad, and in that case, I think I'll pass.
"Yeah maybe. Parties aren't really my scene," I said looking up at him then back down.
"I know," He said nodding. What did he mean by that?
