Reader's P.O.V

Another day at the coffee shop yet again. Only to find a letter about the mortgage on the coffee shop itself.

Scott then walked in on me as I heard his footsteps approach the room. "You know, that adjustable rate mortgage can be a killer when it pops up like that." He said to me trying to cheer me up a bit. "Can be kind of scary."

"Well, so can rock climbing with Becky, but you managed to survive that, right?" I said to him as we both laughed. "Barely yeah." He said as he laughed a bit. "Seriously (y/n), I am a CPA. You can ask me if you need help." "I appreciate it, Scott, but I really just need to talk to Mr. Conner. He's usually very helpful with hiccups like this, you know." I told him thanking him for his offer. "Mr. Conner's a great guy and a good banker, but, that's an awfully big hiccup to repay." Scott says. "Nothing I can't handle, but it was kind of you to offer. Thank you." I said to him with a smile. "Alright. Hey, you, uh, you haven't seen Becky's phone lying around have you? She thought it might be in here." He said as I get up from my chair and look for Becky's phone with Scott. "I'll call it." I tell him. "Oh, yeah, okay." He stands across from me as I call it and we here it go off in the front of the coffee shop as I point to the front. "Mm-hmm." Scott follows me into the front of the coffee shop. And only to find it was in the plate of cookies that I told her not to eat yesterday morning. "But of course. I should have looked there first." Scott said as he retrieved the phone from the plate of cookies. "You have a real knack for problem solving." Scott said as he walked out of the shop. "See ya." I said as he left. "See ya later." He said back.

A customer then walked into the shop on the phone kind of in a rush and didn't know the shop too well. In this coffee shop we match customers to their perfect drink. It's sort of my speciality and what we do here. "Yeah, well, I'm here now. Okay. Alright, yeah. I'll call you back in five." And he then hangs up the phone and puts it in his pocket.

"Hi" He says "Hi, what can I get for you?" I ask the customer. "What do you recommend?" He asks. "Well, matching customers to their perfect drink is sort of my speciality. Just need to know more about you." I said to him. "Interesting. Well, what do you need to know?" He asked me. "Um...what sort of profession are you in?" I ask him. "Invastment banking." He told me. "Stressful. Long hours too. I'd imagine." "Mm-hmmm" "So, caffeine. Um...spicy or sweet?" "Little bit of both. Or so I am told. Ha!" "Both, okay. Um...how about a chai? Sweet the first sip and then the spicy really sneaks up on you. Best of both worlds." I recommend to him.

"Very impressive, Miss (y/l/n)." He said to me. "I'll make it." Eli said as he snaps his fingers. "I need the practice." "How did you know my name?" I asked the man up front. "It was on your request for an extension of your business loan." The man answers. "Um, why...why did Mr. Conner show you that?" I ask him. "Well Mr. Conner doesn't own the bank anymore. My partner and I do. I'm Frank Miller." The guy or should I say Frank held out his hand for me to shake. I shook his hand back kind of devastated about the loan of the coffee shop. "Mr. Conner sold?" I ask him. "Mm-hmmm. I'm sure he'll be in here to tell you himself. I know these small town guys get personally chummy with their borrowers, but you see, that's the problem. They base too many decisions on emotions and not enough on realities. But the bottom line is you're in too deep to get out." Frank tells me. "The economy's been through the past few years." "I know, it has, and then you had that unfortunate timing where you had to replace the roof and update the plumbing at the same time, but you need to face the facts. You cannot afford to keep this place open and I cannot afford not to force you out." Frank tells me. "There must be something that we can do." I say devastated knowing that I am going to lose the coffee shop. "I think we both know we're just postponing the inevitable. " Frank tells me. "Listen, I didn't come in here to close on ya right now. Look, my business partner, and I, we have some other stops to make. So perhaps..." Before you know it Frank gets cut off by Eli giving him his cup of chai. "Alright! Hmm. Now I may not have the title yet, but that sir, is an amazing chai." Eli tells him. "Thank you." Frank says to Eli talking his cup of chai. "You're welcome." Eli says as he leaves. "Perhaps we can meet again next week and I can explain to you more about the foreclosure process." Frank says. "Sure." I said as I nodded. He was about to pay me when I said. "It's on the house." "Oh, thank you." He said as he was about to leave and takes a sip of his chai. "Mm, you were right. This is the perfect choice!" Frank leaves and my friend just comes in after getting off the phone.

"I got you a roast turkey san...(y/n), are you ok?" My friend said seeing the devastated and anxious look on my face. "Yeah, fine." I said trying to hide the fact that we're going to lose the coffee shop. "Who was that?" My friend asked. "Just another satisfied customer." I said lying to cover up the fact that I really don't want to talk about it. "Good. Hopefully, he'll be back then." My friend walked off to get to work. "Oh, he'll be back." I said devastated.
