"So how was your date with tall, dark and muscular last night?" Becky asked as she finally sits down at the bar and drinks her cup of coffee with whipped cream. Ok she does get pretty grumpy without her coffee so Scott's right I should try to cut her some slack. Although I wished she didn't ask that.

"Um, my date was...unexpected." I said to Becky leaning over the bar counter. "Unexpected good, or unexpected bad?" Becky said getting interested in my date night that happened last night. Of course it was unexpected bad. Most of them are! "Well, he's the coach of the high school football team. "Likes kids." My friend was also pretty interested as well. "He was the captain of his college team." I kept going on. "Has leadership skills." My friend adds on. "Sounds promising." Becky said as she lights up with hope in her eyes. "Um, did you set up another date?" She asked. "Well he also has questionable table manners and he couldn't remember my name." I said dropping the balloons because it was a horrible date. Remember the guy I told you about. Yeah it was that guy.

"Your name is kind of odd." Becky says. "You're odd." I said to her with a smug smile on my face. "You could give him another chance. I mean maybe he was just nervous?" My friend said to me feeling bad for me and the guy. "No, I'm pretty sure I got a clear picture of who he is." I said to Becky and my friend letting them know I do not want to go through that hell again. It was embarrassing! He literally took me to a karaoke place, got up on stage, and sang off key. This other blonde girl seemed to have enjoyed it. Ugh! It was a nightmare. Not doing that ever again. "I'm just hoping I can get rid of it." I said having a flashback to what happened last night.

"Ah, and you worked so hard on this one." My friend said. "Thank you." I said looking over to her devastated. "Know anyone who wants a bunch of football stats on flash cards?" My friend asks Becky. Oh no, not again. They are going to try to hook me up with another one of those bad dates. God help me!

"Well there's plenty of fish in the..." My friend was about to say when I cut her off. "Really?" I said looking at her. I hate going on bad dates and I am already trying to get rid of the image of the last horrible date I went on. "Well, there are." My friend says. "That reminds me of why I'm here, practily in the middle of the night in the first place. You need to check your computer. You have a message." Becky says eating a piece of a cookie that I thought I told her not to eat. "Do I even want to ask how you know that?" I told her. "Probably not." She said still eating the cookies.

So I go in the back of the coffee shop and get on the computer and see that there was a message for me from my ex boyfriend. Great! Another problem I have to face. You know he left me to have a job firm in Chicago so why bother? The message reads. "It's been a year now. I am coming home to town. I need to see you. We need to talk. -Patrick"

"Scott's going to take me home."  Becky comes into the room. "Ooh. You read the message didn't you?" She looked at me and saw that I was upset. "So what are we going to do?" Becky asked. "There's nothing to do." I said devastated, stressed, and drained. "Of course, there is." Becky said to me. I sigh. "Look, Becky, we've been over this." "Well, let's go over it again." "Ok he left and I stayed. That's it." "If that was it, why is he writing you a message saying he 'needs to see you'?" Becky said with her arms crossed. I honestly wish we weren't having this conversation right now.

"So, do you want to talk about what you are going to do with Patrick?" My friend says to me kind of worried about me. "I mean, there's nothing to talk about." I say to her devastated. "He lives in Chicago and I live here. Nothing's changed." "Well maybe nothing's changed for you but you might want to start thinking about what you're going to do if something's changed for him." My friend said to me. That was the last thing I needed to hear before she left home for the night. "See ya tomorrow." She said before she left.

I decided to stay a little bit and play on the piano to clear my mind from the devastating day I had today. Patrick was the reason I left my home town to go to Boston in the first place.
