Let's face it. Even with all of my experience growing up on a farm, I still was not one hundred percent awake walking on deck that morning. No one was ever one hundred percent awake at five-o-clock in the morning.

But we always woke right up as we jumped into the freezing water that was the Deerfield High School pool. This morning was particularly cold, and jumping in felt like I was swimming in an ice bath, even though the pool was probably only a couple degrees colder than usual.

"WOW that's cold!" Kaya exclaimed, "Why didn't I just ignore my alarm?"

"What alarm?" Alex asked, "I had to ring your doorbell 5 times before you shouted 'coming!' out your bedroom window."

"Shut up," Kaya grumbled as Alex jumped in the water and splashed me in the process. I shivered when it hit me, and soon a gasp came from one of the other girls, Narcissa. She almost never said anything, so we all looked at her.

"You okay Issa?" Jaz asked, and she shook the shocked look off her face.

"I swear I saw electricity spark in the water," Narcissa said quietly, "But I was probably just seeing things."

"Alright, everyone ready for today's practice?" Coach Jeck called, and we all stopped talking and looked at him. Realizing that two of us were missing, we looked at the benches to see Jaz and Colton deep in conversation.

"Man, what great captains we have," Alex mused, loud enough for them to hear, "If only they would come over and practice with us."

Looking flustered, the two seniors quickly got up and started coming over.

'At least say something,' Jaz mouthed to Colton.

'I said not now," Colton mouthed back before the two jumped into the water as well.

"Glad you two could join us," Coach Jeck said, "Now, warm up with 200 swim, 200 kick, and 200 pull. Get out and stretch when you're done and we'll talk about the rest of practice."

The first 200 was appropriately uneventful. Then the 200 kick came along. We were about half way through when I swam past a jet which decided to shoot in even colder water. I jolted in shock. Then everyone gasped.

"Okay," Narcissa said, louder this time, "I was not the only one who saw that electric spark, right."

"I don't know what that was," Alex said warily.

"Everyone get out!" Coach Jeck called, "I'll talk to the Deerfield guys about this. Until then, it's probably safer for you to stay out of this pool."

We all got out and worriedly murmured about the electricity, and I did my best to get out of the locker room as fast as possible. I had to talk to Uncle D about this, it couldn't be a coincidence that the sparking was happening when I was in the pool.

When I left the locker room, I almost ran straight into Colton.

"Oh hey," I said, "That was weird, huh."

"Yeah," he replied, "Hey, you need a ride to school? We could stop for breakfast too or something like that."

"Oh man, that's sounds great," I said, and his eyes lit up, "But I really need to get home, we're having some, um, family problems."

"Oh," he said as I ran off, and once I was out of earshot, "I'm never gonna catch a break am I."

As I got to the front porch of the Davenport mansion, I morphed from my eagle form back into human form. As I opened the door, I realized that no one else was gonna be awake in that house for at least another hour. I sighed and closed the door quietly, and almost considered seeing if Colton was still up for breakfast.
