"The worst type of pain is to smile to prevent the tears from flooding."

Grayson's POV:
I looked at Jess with a sad smile as I finished reading, I could relate with what she wrote and it made me remember the dreams that I had before I met her.

Ever since we started writing to each other my dreams started to reduce which was a good thing except my anxiety was getting even worse as the days went by.

Ethan was in charge of getting me my anxiety medication and now that I'm out of the city I'm worried that I may harm Jess as she doesn't know the full truth about me.

Jess's POV:
After Grayson finished reading he gave me a sad smile before turning to face the window giving me some time to think about my life and where it was standing at the moment.

How was I going to survive in the long run, without money. I knew that my foster parents would cancel my credit cards and would take all of the inheritance as I wasn't 18 yet.

How would Ethan and his dad react, Ethan started to show signs that he cared about Grayson's mental health but I don't know what happens at Grayson's house so I couldn't assume anything.

All I knew was that I had to relax and take the next few hours as a time to just sleep.

Grayson's POV:
I woke up an hour before the plane was supposed to land and looked outside the window. Flying was always one of the things I was passionate about along with travelling the world with my family, oh how things have changed since then.

I stared at Jess smiling slightly as I took in the tiny details I never did whenever we met.
Her hair was frizzy yet smooth at the same time with little natural curls bouncing off of her face making her look pretty. Her nose would twitch every time something was bad in her dream and luckily her nose wasn't twitching this time.

The sun was starting to set sending in a gentle glow through the windows making Jess scrunch up her eyes before waking up. I quickly turned to face the TV and cursed at myself for not having something on.

"Are we about to land soon?" She asked as she cleared her throat.

I nodded as she smiled before closing her eyes again allowing me to relax with the last few minutes remaining.

We rushed out of the plane and grabbed our bags from the trolley and left to hail a cab to take us to a motel that Jess had already booked in advance.

"The motel owner was good friends with my dad so hopefully we can stay a few nights there for free before earning some money somehow." Jess said as we entered the car.

"You do know that I can give you some money too right, I don't want you to spend all your money up so quickly." She quickly shook her head and smiled.

"Who says we're only going to stay in New Jersey. I was thinking of maybe doing a tiny road trip? No planning, just waiting for whatever takes us to the next step." I looked towards her as she nervously tucked her hair behind her ear.

"Or we could stay here I'm fine with anything." I laughed before shaking my head.

"Your idea reminds me of how we first met by you sending a random letter and letting the future decide the rest." Her mouth turned into an O shape as she muttered to herself about how stupid she was.

"So road trip Broken Boy?" She asked as she put her hand out like we were going to cheer together.

"Let's do a road trip broken girl." We cheered before laughing at how stupid we looked.

Shortly after we reached the motel and paid the driver before grabbing the bags and exiting the car. Jess immediately ran into the hotel to be greeted by a tall man who was hugging her with a tear going down his face.

"Jess you've grown up so much since I last saw you, how are you feeling." He asked as I noticed that Jess was crying into his chest.

"I ran away Uncle Ben, those guys were trying to send me to an asylum." He whispered something into her ear to calm down and she gradually focused on her breathing calming herself down.

"And who's this guy with you?" He looked me up and down making me nervous at my first impressions seeing that I was dressed in sweatpants and a t-shirt wasn't very attractive at the moment.

"We found each other through letters and have helped each other since then." She then started to whisper into his ear making me grow a little impatient and curious as to what they were talking about.

After they finished privately talking he smiled at me and gave me a pat on the back before giving us the keys and allowing us to go up into the room.

We walked up to flights of stairs before opening the door in shock, the flat only had one kings sized bed and a kitchen. I nervously looked towards Jess wondering what her reaction would be.

"Are you comfortable sleeping on the same bed as me? I can sleep on the couch instead." I asked her as she shook her head immediately.

"I don't mind and you deserve to get some rest. Let's unpack and have an hour to ourselves before we head out and walk down a random street?" I nodded while nervously rubbing the back of my neck.

I started unpacking my bags as she entered the bathroom to have a shower. My thoughts started to move wonder around before I stopped myself and finished unpacking and changed out of my airport clothes.

After we both got ready we left and started to walk down the main street.

"Do you ever wonder if you'd have a normal life?" Jess asked me out of the blue.

"I do but imagining rather than living in reality won't get me anywhere so I guess I'm stuck in this world with you." I let the words fly out of my mouth and smacked myself when I said with you causing Jess to giggle.

"At least I have you to help keep me company so I guess I'm stuck in this world with you too." She mimicked me causing me to laugh.

Let's see where the night takes us...
