Chapter Eighteen

"Loneliness adds beauty to life. It puts a special burn on sunsets and makes night air smell better."

Jess's POV:
Everything felt right at that moment, we were walking hand in hand enjoying the scenery around us without anyone ruining our moods. No foster parents, no Ethan, just the two of us.

"Should we figure out our first location for the road trip?" Grayson asked while playing with my fingers.

"I was thinking of maybe taking you to my favourite places when I lived here as a child?" I looked at his face trying to make out any emotions.

"Are you sure, I don't want to invade your personal life, especially if it reminds you of your parents." I looked down again thinking if it was a bad idea.

"I'm sure, the only way to relive those memories is with someone new so let's go!" I screamed before running and pulling his arm causing him to trip and fall face flat on the floor.

I couldn't contain my laughter and started to hiccup until I saw Grayson get up and start to chase me making me scream.

It was seven in the evening but yet here we were playing tag like a bunch of kids on the streets of a town I once loved.

Grayson's POV:
After a few minutes of playing tag I finally caught her and put her on my back making her scream and slap me.

I continued to walk ignoring her pleas before feeling a sensation on my neck, i turned around to see her kissing my neck which made me stop in place.

I was still in a daze and didn't realise that she had gotten off my back and smirked at me as she walked ahead making me shake my head with a sly smile.

This girl was full of mysteries and I've yet to discover them.

"Ok the first spot is this arcade, I came here every weekend and played for over two hours so I have to warn you I'm a bit of a pro." I rolled my eyes and put my hands up in defence at her silliness.

"Well here's a fact you didn't know about me, my old house had an arcade next door to it so I went there every single day so you better watch out." She laughed and fiddled with the bag slung around her neck.

"What are we waiting for let's go!" She held my hand as we ran to the arcade looking like a bunch of idiots.

When we reached there I took in the sight of the building, it was old and broken down yet still had a vintage vibe to it.

She dragged me inside and I looked around to see all of the neon colours shining from the screens of the many games plastered around the room.

As I was taking in the view Jess came back with a bunch of coins and pointed towards a very familiar game, a game that Ethan and I used to play all the time.

"I played this game with my parents every single time we would come here, it means a lot to me so I decided why not share it with someone." I nodded my head before coughing to ease the nervousness running throughout my body.

"I used to play this game too, I played this with Ethan every single day when we were ten." She looked up at me worriedly.

"We don't have to play it Gray, there are a lot more games." I shook my head no and placed my coins into the slot machine before pressing the player one button.

"Are you up for this Dilen." I smirked while saying her last name making her cringe in disgust. She nodded her head and placed the coins into the machine before pressing player two.

"You're on Dolan." The game had started and we immediately grabbed the VR headset and placed it over our heads before grabbing the gun and steering wheel.

The machine started to shake causing me to scream as I had forgotten how the game functioned making Jess laugh.

We continued to play a few rounds while also tickling or distracting the other person allowing you to snipe them.

"Watch this Grayson!" She screamed before making her character do a 360 degree turn before shooting my character making him die instantly.

"HAAAA I WON IN YOUR FACE YOU PUNK!" She threw the gun onto the seat and started to jump up and down around the game.

"Ok ok you won! Let's play a few more games before we can collect some prizes." She rolled her eyes and nodded before we walked around the arcade and played a few more games for the next two hours.

Once we were done we went up to the counter to count how many tickets we had won. Jess was standing by the slot machine and pushing the tickets through while I was looking through the prizes.

I was about to ask someone to show me a prize until I heard the news and looked up.

"Breaking News, two teenagers named Jess Dilen and Grayson Dolan have went missing from their hometown just yesterday. The only information we have of them is the flight that they took today to New Jersey. A reward will go out to try and find them. Further information will be displayed at the end." I looked down in shock and ran to Jess who was in awe at the amount of tickets that we had won.

"JESS WE NEED TO GO NOW!" I whisper screamed looking around the room to make sure no one would recognise us.

"What's wrong? I just got the tickets done so we can get a prize and go back." I took her hand and left the arcade quickly.

"Your mum and my brother reported us missing to the police and now our face is on the local news!" Jess scowled while pacing around thinking about what to do next.

"We can start our road trip tonight! My uncle has some cars and I'm sure he'll allow us to use one to escape." I looked at her shocked until I realised that that was the only plan we had left.

"We have to do this now then! Let's go!" We both hurriedly ran back to the motel and started to pack our bags.

I can't believe that they're looking for us, Jess's foster parents probably want her back to take her inheritance money from her parents but why does Ethan want me back?

All I know is that I have to pack fast before the police find us here.
