Rina POV
"So where are we heading exactly?", I asked after we had been driving for awhile.
"I was thinking of just grabbing boba at this popular shop nearby", Joshua replied.
"Boba? Ohh, you mean bubble tea?"
"Oh yeah, same thing."
We pulled into a small, trendy shop and ordered our drinks, Joshua getting a regular Milk Tea with pearls and me getting my usual Jasmine Milk Tea, half-sugar, no ice. When they came out, we decided to sit at the umbrella tables outside, arguing the whole way whether the drink should be called boba or bubble tea.
"What does 'boba' even mean, like, is that a made-up word??", I asked incredulously.
"Okay, but does 'bubble' even make sense? These things are tapioca pearls, not some bubbles you can pop or anything", Joshua replied impatiently, "'Boba' at least comes from the Mandarin word for them, I think."
"Whatever, I'll never understand you SoCal people."
"Hey, you're technically SoCal now, too, ya dunce."
"What'd you just call me??"
We went on and on until I realized other people were staring at us and laughing. I even heard one girl in a group of her friends nearby saying "Aww, they're such a cute couple". Joshua probably noticed, too, since we both kind of cleared our throats and cut off the conversation, sitting in awkward silence for a moment. I focused on sipping my drink and chewing on each bubbl...uhh boba...no, pearl...wait..
"You should audition for our praise team", Joshua said suddenly, breaking my train of thought.
"...What?"
"Sorry, I mean...well, I heard you at the practice rooms the other day and you sounded really good. The praise team at church is holding auditions in a few week and I'm pretty sure there are open spots for strings so..."
Without thinking, I blurted out, "Sure, I'll think about it. Just let me know when." *Mental facepalm* I really question what goes through my head sometimes.
"Great! I'll text you all the info, so can I get your number?", Joshua asked, handing me his phone.
"Wow look at you, you smooth mofo", I said, while typing digits into his phone contacts. He stuck out his tongue. Cute.

Later that night, I sat on my bed scrolling through my phone. A new message popped up from an unknown number.
From: +1-213-xxx-xxxx

Joshua POV (earlier)
After I dropped off Rina and got back to my apartment, I sat down on the couch and thumbed through my gallery looking for the praise team auditions flyer. I had no idea why I asked her to join all of a sudden, but all I knew was that I was happy I did.
I looked through my contacts to find Rina's number and nearly spit out my drink when I saw what she saved herself as: "dunce".
Oh my gosh, this girl will be the end of me I thought, quietly laughing to myself, and then opened a new text message to send her the info.
[same text conversation as above]
It was getting late, so I said good night, changed her contact name to Rina 바보, and switched off my phone.
