Chapter 14

Rina POV

"Sera?? Okay, can someone just tell me what's going on here please?" I asked in bewilderment. 

From across the table, Alex had caught sight of Joshua who was now standing behind me, arms crossed. 

"I'm sorry, but why are you here with the guy you classmate-zoned?" Alex asked me, ignoring what I'd just said. Before I could curse him out, Joshua intervened for me. 

"Look, buddy, I'm here with my girlfriend to celebrate Valentine's Day, so if you could maybe go play Mr. Steal Yo Girl somewhere else, that would be fantastic, thank you," he said, slinging an arm casually around my shoulder. I smirked. Of course, how could I forget sassy Jisoo, I thought.

"W-wh...u-uh...", Alex stuttered, probably trying to think of a witty comeback. He was never really an expert in that area anyway. While we were talking, Sera had made her way over to our table.

"Alright, show's over Alex Rhee", Sera said, "as you can see, none of us need you here anymore." 

"Wait, Sera, what's going on?", I asked her, still confused. 

"Girl, this piece of trash here has only been trying to get you back just so that he can leave you in a month to take revenge on you 'leaving' him behind a year ago. Real brilliant, am I right?" My mouth dropped open in shock, but then it hit me at how ridiculously idiotic his plan sounded. I gave an empty laugh and looked Alex dead in the eye. 

"You're kidding me, right? Did you really think that I'm stupid enough to fall for something like that? Like, I was just waiting for the day you'd come back, but then get so heartbroken because you'd pull such a cheap move like that, or something? Ever heard of moving on, you asshole? I've clearly figured it out, so why can't you?" I nearly spat my last words at him, anger and hatred boiling up in me as I kept talking. 

Alex was also fuming, although it was directed at Sera for some reason. "You. Fucking. Two-faced. Snake." He looked at all of us, eyes darting around nervously. "Fuck this. I never wanna see any of you again." He shot up out of his seat, nearly toppling the chair over, and stalked out of the café. 

The three of us remaining just looked at each other blankly and then broke out in laughter. 

"Good, we never wanted to see you anyway", I said in between my laughs. Something was still off, though. "Sera, how did you know all of this? And how did you know Alex would be here?" 

"Well, remember how I called you the morning before you and Joshua got together?", Sera began.

Sera POV

Flashback to Winter Formal

"Goodnight, Joshua...thanks for everything!" I called out to him after he'd dropped me off. He waved back and drove away. 

Right as I stepped in through the door to my house, I felt my phone buzz.

Call from "Unknown" 

Who could be calling at this hour? I thought and picked it up.

"Hello, who is this?"

"Aww, Sera, I'm offended. You deleted my number?"  Man, this was seriously the last person on earth I wanted to deal with right now. 

I took a second to recollect myself before responding, "Oh, my bad! Hey, Alex, how's it going?"

"Pretty good...say, you wanna make a deal?"

What does this douchebag want from me? "Hm, what do you mean?"

"I know you've had a crush on the guy Rina's close with, and I wanna get Rina back so...why don't we help each other out?" 

This was definitely not gonna end well, but it probably wouldn't hurt to get some insider info on what he was plotting. "How are you planning on getting her back, though?"

"Well, I already talked to her earlier this morning when I took her to the beach so I can tell she's on the fence about it. Plus, I'm not really getting her back. I'm leaving at the end of February so I'll just leave her the same way that she did to me before. I know that you probably hate that Rina's so close to that other guy, so let's help each other." 

Oh? Did I just hear that right? Leaving her?

"Ooh, you're playing dirty, huh? Alright, it's a deal." I replied, deciding to act like I was playing along. 

Now just wait until Rina finds out about this.

Rina POV

"...so then I just had to encourage you to make it official with Joshua. I knew Alex would try something sooner or later when I kept ignoring his calls and Valentine's Day was probably the perfect opportunity for him. We finished him, though", Sera said, beaming. 

"Damnnn, you're a real sneaky bitch, aren't you?" I said, smiling proudly at my best friend. 

"Anytime, my dude," she said, hugging me, "Well, I'm off then. Enjoy the rest of your date, you lovebirds!" 

Joshua and I looked at each other and laughed. Of course our Valentine's Day would be anything but normal.
