Rina POV
I ended up joining the church's praise team per Joshua's recommendation, so we ended up running into each other almost every day of the week. We became close friends as I got accustomed to living in LA. Every time I hung out with Joshua though, Sera seemed to distance herself from me and I couldn't figure out why...
The months passed by steadily and soon, it reached the end of the first semester, which meant finals season. Sera and I were hanging out at her house one Thursday afternoon for a study session.
--
"AHHH, I can't take this anymore!" Sera whined, throwing down her math papers in frustration.
I laughed and closed my notebook. "Dude same, let's take a study break." We both automatically reached for the stash of snacks on the kitchen counter, proof that we were best friends.
"Yo, can you do me a favor?" Sera asked, shoving chips in her mouth.
"Yeah, what's up?", I said, my mouth also half full.
"So I have this guy I like..." she began, "and I want you to help me in asking him to the winter dance."
"Oh?? And why is this the first time I'm hearing about this?" I gasped, pretending to be offended. Sera laughed, shaking her head in apology.
"Sooo, who's the lucky guy?", I pressed on.
"Hmmm, you actually know him pretty well," Sera replied, smirking.
"I do? Wait, but the only guy I'm close with is..." My mouth started forming the name.
"Joshua Hong!!", Sera exclaimed, her cheeks pink with embarrassment. "Yep, I'm planning on doing the asking after our last final."
"Ooh okay...why him, though?? He's so annoying, all he does is roast people, he's dumb--" My voice trailed off after it hit me. Oh right. Most people still see him as a perfect gentleman who can do no wrong.
"Hmmm, does that mean you don't like him then?", she asked with a hopeful smile.
"Wait, where the heck did you get that idea, of course I don't." Sera didn't look convinced but just laughed in relief.
I sighed and said, "Alright, alright, I'll go ask about his plans for the dance."
"YAYY! Ahh, thank you so much, Rina, I love youuu!", Sera cried, attacking me with hugs.
"Yeah, yeah, save that for Joshua", I teased. She punched me lightly on the arm, still giggling.

Joshua POV
My phone buzzing woke me up from my precious nap after school. Checking the name on my screen, I groaned inwardly.
From: Rina 바보
Yo loser, I have a question for ya
Ugh thanks for waking me up from my nap, dumbass
What do u wantLmao ur so lazy
Are u going to the winter dance?Wait, why would Rina be asking me about the dance? I thought. I sat up a little straighter on my bed.
Uhh yea
Why are u asking though?Has anyone asked u yet?
What the heck Rina
No lol
Why though??K cool thx bye!
--I was so incredibly confused, but she stopped replying even after I spammed her with questions. The only conclusion I could come to was that Rina was planning on asking me to the dance. That makes absolutely no sense, though, we're more like siblings, I reasoned, shaking my head and resumed lying down on my bed with one arm over my eyes.
However, I couldn't help but feel a bit hopeful before drifting off to sleep again.
