A/N: So here it is. Chapter 10. We're about halfway through this story but the chapters are starting to get a little bit longer. This chapter has major feels! Warning!
He didn’t turn around. “I wandered about. I heard footsteps and hid in here. I wasn’t going to run. I may be the God of Lies but believe me when I tell you; I have nowhere to run” he said.
“Loki, why did you storm out like that?” I asked.
Loki groaned and sat on the bed, shoving his face into his hands. “I am a monster. Not a God, not truly. Not a king. I don’t even have any humanity. I am seen as evil by everyone I cross paths with and YET, I still help you. I still put my trust in you. You embarrassed me so I stormed out. I can have temper tantrums too.” His voice was so distant. “I embarrassed you? Great arrogant Loki?" I asked, trying to lighten the mood.
His mouth tugged at the edges. “I may have a big ego my dear, but it can be wounded” he said. My heart faltered. I walked towards him and crouched down. I took his hands in mine. “You aren’t a monster” I whispered. “Am I not?” he said. He got up and I almost fell back. I caught myself with my hand and saw Loki pace the distance between my bed and the wardrobe. I stood and he looked at me with urgency. “Would you still say that after seeing me like this?”
And his skin turned blue. His eyes went blood red. Markings ran up and down his skin like a painting. My breath caught in my throat and I stared; at his face, his arms, his eyes. I had never seen anything like it. I stepped closer to him and he stepped away. But I kept going. He stopped and I grabbed his hand. He was colder than usual. “Why are you like this?” I asked. “I told you. I am a Frost Giant, not a true Asgardian.”
“You’re so beautiful.”
My hands traced his arms and brushed his neck. His hands caught mine and he lowered them. “What?” he asked. I looked up and into his blood red eyes. “You’re beautiful” I repeated. Loki’s face looked so innocent and so unlike himself. I touched his cheek. He relaxed into my touch. “Alia…” But I ignored him. One hand rested on his face and the other was still tracing his arm. He was wearing a simple green shirt with short sleeves that billowed and made him look almost like a pirate. My fingers touched his collarbone and I felt weak at my knees.
Loki’s hands were still on my forearms and it was starting to burn. I winced but continued to stay in that stance. Loki dropped his hands and stepped away. “I’m sorry…” he started but I clasped my hand on his mouth. “I’m sorry for embarrassing you. You’re my friend and I shouldn’t have done that” I said. Loki closed his eyes and his skin returned to normal. When his eyes fluttered back open, they were the green ones that had caught my attention the minute I met him. “Am I Alia?” he asked.
Our faces were moving closer and I couldn’t help it, I shut my eyes. Loki’s hand slid across my cheek and down my neck. He pulled me closer and my hands fell against his chest. Then his lips were on mine. They were soft and melted against mine.
“I think she hopes that. And I think she’s going to get her heart broken”
Fandral’s words rang in my head and I pulled away slowly. Loki took a deep breath and it hit my face. I wanted to back away. I know I should have. Instead, I laid my forehead against his. “I think we should go to dinner now” I said, desperatley trying to change the subject. Loki laughed and tucked a piece of hair behind my ear. I grabbed his hand and we walked out of my room.
I heard foot-steps and awkwardly let Loki’s hand go. He furrowed his brow but understood when Thor came around the corner. “Lady Alia! Brother! Coming to dinner?” he asked. I smiled and shook my head. “Wonderful! You will sit beside me!” Thor said, draping an arm around my shoulder. I snuck a peek at Loki and saw his face was hard and he seemed annoyed. I know Loki loved his brother but he still felt the cold chill of standing in his shadow. I refrained from grabbing Loki’s hand again and interlocked my own fingers together. Loki eyed them and put his own behind his back. We entered the dining room to see everyone. Frigga’s eyes lit up when she saw Loki. “Hello my son” she greeted him. Loki smiled sincerely. In a way that I hadn't seen many times. “Hello Mother” he said. He took a seat beside her and I sat between him and Thor.
Loki seemed more relaxed in the crowd with his mother beside him. That warmed my heart a bit. I thought back to the way his lips felt against mine. I fought the blood rising in my cheeks down and turned to Lady Sif. “You want to see me in the training room tomorrow?” I asked her. She smiled and looked at Volstagg. “Yes, I would like to show you some things” she said. I shuffled in my seat. “Sounds great…” I couldn’t hide my nervousness. Sif was the kind of woman who intimidated me. Especially since I was pretty sure she could even give Thor a run for his money in battle.
Dinner was of Asgardian standards. Large fruits, weird meats, and totally delicious. There was laughing and stories of great battles. It swelled my heart when Loki joined in. No one gave him odd looks or made a comment. Loki was the person they knew before the destruction once more. I smiled to myself and Thor noticed. “You are pleased Lady Alia?” he asked. “Very. And hey, you used to call me Lady Winter. What changed? Also, why am I the only one who seems to have a last name in the first place?” I asked. Thor laughed. “You must forgive me. Surnames are different here. It depends on your family what your name is. And I called you Winter for respect. I call you Alia in friendship.” I smiled and touched his arm. It was hard not to blush a tad at his bulging muscles. “Thank you Thor. But as a friend, call me Alia” I said. He smiled and it made his eyes crinkle on the sides.
After dinner, I walked lazily beside Loki back to my chambers. A thought came to me and I halted. Loki fell back. “Yes?” he asked. “Uhm… how are the sleeping arrangements going to work?” I asked. Loki smirked and moved towards me with his eyes focused. I held out my hand and pushed him back by his stomach. “I’m serious” I said. Loki moved to whisper in my ear. “You’re being suggestive again.”
I sighed. “ How's this for suggestive? Your room or mine?” I asked. Loki laughed and moved away from my face slowly. He took my hand and we kept walking to my chambers. I opened the door and turned to him. “Are we going to talk about…”
“I’ll sleep on the chair. Get some rest Alia.”
He walked past me and curled up in the chair near my bed. I went to my bathroom to slip out of my dress. I peeked my head out to see Loki with his eyes closed. I quickly dashed out in my bra and underwear and jumped under the sheets. “The glance I stole is payback for the towel” I heard Loki say. I squealed and willed the lights of my room out. Loki chuckled and my pulse quickened. I fell asleep to the sound of Loki breathing steadily.
LOKI’S POV
I sat in the darkness and watched Alia’s chest rise and fall as she slept. She had called me beautiful and I responded by kissing her. My lips still tingled the way my body had after she hugged me. I hated how she had gotten under my skin. I felt my humanity restoring and a spark of a greater change in me. She was helpless and alone. And she was right, I understood her. Not being able to sleep, I lifted up and walked to the bed. Alia’s face was relaxed and her arms were stretched out above her head. Her hair billowed around her. I leaned down, kissed her forehead, and lingered a moment. I walked out quietly. I wasn’t going anywhere but to the balcony. I had kicked my boots off before curling up on the chair so I was barefoot. I found Thor on the balcony. Damn. He beat me to it.
“Hello brother” he greeted me. “Are you not alarmed that I’m without Alia?” I asked. Thor shrugged. “You will not run. You are too fond of her.” I laughed bitterly. I stood beside my brother and didn’t say a word. Neither of us did. We just stood together; he lost in his thoughts and I lost in mine. He finally put a hand on my back. “Don’t let her awake and find you gone. Goodnight brother.”
As he walked away, it occurred to me something must be bothering him. I read his emotions before he disappeared around the corner. I found distress and worry and I remembered that Thor had fallen for a human while on Midgard. I looked towards Alia’s room at that thought. I sighed and turned to go back. Thankfully, she was still resting. It was hard not to crawl into the comfort of her bed with her. So much for pushing her out of my life. She had dragged me out of jail and into her life. Damn her. Damn her and her soft lips and the way she looked in a golden dress and her telling me that I’m beautiful.
